Why do people hate Excalibur?

When I went on to anime forums and had conversations with fans after viewing the show I was shocked to find that so many hate this guy. He is hilarious. The only excuse they seem to come up with is that he is annoying which is exactly how the characters feel. It's almost as if this is a bandwagon thing. If the character stabbed themselves in the head would you all do it too? Oh and how could you not love the Excalibur song.

Most people I've talked to seemed to love him...I just started the series so I don't really have an opinion on him though

Maybe it's because they don't understand his signifcance in regards to the show.

Personally I beleive the "Holy Sword Excalibur" is meant to be a metaphor reflecting on some people's interpretation regarding the nature of Holinesss.

Like many faith based religions like Christianity require that you follow many rules. In the same way, the holy sword Excalibur requires that you follow many rules in order to use the sword.

Like many religions like Christianity, the faith can become repetitive and to some boring. Excalibur is like this as well.

But at the same time Christianity can have a profoundly powerful spiritual power. In the same way Excalibur is a very powerful sword.

Also excalibur seems like random slapstick comedy and to be honest he's not really funny, he's annoying. I know he's supposed to be annoying, but he's supposed to be annoying to the other characters not to the viewers. He just does too good job of being annoying.
