Decadence

I thought the documentary was very interesting. However I think the high levels of drug use on these extended vacations to India are the result of societal decadence found in western nations in general and not the result of PTSD. This same phenomena has been going on across Europe for the last 25 years with the eurotrash rave scene and even longer across American college campuses among trustifarian hippy types. I liked the unique focus of the film but I thought it was a stretch to link this behavior to PTSD. This is just the result of decadence which comes with entitlement combined with a decline of standards in western societies. If you want to get to the root of this problem you have to address modern value systems and their lack of judgement and standards.

Replying to and old post but i actually thought the same. The drug use is extreme, probably extremer when living home as people have more social control and responsibilities. But in college i witnessed equal behavior.

I wouldn't be surprised if the percentages of people 'flipping out' are equal under similar (heavy) drug use. In short, PTSD as a cause is unlikely. Another factor to keep in mind is, like the 31 year old art student who lived in India for 6 years said, the real impact of their experience and actions comes later.
