Julianna in because she's hispanic

Okay - there seems to be theme on this board that Julianna got into every school because her parents were wealthy.
She got in to every school because she's a minority. Private schools LOVE minority kids. A minority child who can ALSO pay the full tuition is getting in.

If you're a very rich man in NYC - marry a minority; you're kid will get into every school - preschool, grade school, high school, college -
that's they way it is.

Wow stinkmonkey...what an observation.

Here's mine: Would you say the same thing if she was ... Asian? My guess, probably not. It doesn't matter anyhow in the scheme of things.

Julianna was a very well functioned child -- well functioned around other children and adults too so I was not surprised she was accepted into all of the schools. Her parents made it about HER. It wasn't about her being part hispanic: Her father took notes, asked questions, watched how his child functioned at the schools, was there for the child. Again, it was about THE CHILD. THAT'S why Julianna got in to them all.

Unfortunately that was NOT the case with all the parents profiled. The worst was Ms. Columbia and Mr. Undergraduate Harvard and Wharton Graduates. It was obvious that the world revolved around them and the school was a mark for them -not their child. Guess what, the admissions folks could see through that pretention and their wanting status - not necessarily an education for Jackson. And I feel sorry for little Jackson up there in Boston. He's going to grow up with quite the sense of entitlement; and I am sure Boston nursery schools will give this couple a wake up call too.

It's all about the children, not their minority or majority status.

Yes. I would say the same thing is she was Asian.

Your post is ridiculous, your post is wrong.

"watched how his child functioned in the school" She's a baby. You're a moron.

You sound like one of the pathetic NURSERY/DAY CARE teachers who think they are shaping children's futures.

IT IS about MINORITY status.

I was going to add that Juliana's father was one of the most obnoxious parents depicted in the film.

It was a shame to see him get "rewarded" for his obnoxious behavior by having Juliana admitted to all of the schools he applied to.

Agree, he seems pretty twisted; and when they mentioned he works at Goldman Sachs that was the icing on the cake. Wonder if his Bonus check came in time for tuition.
I thought that Layla's family as well as Kieron's were fairly grounded people. The rest of the lot were all nut cases controlled by the self appointed Admission gods. I know understand why the rich were beheaded during the revolution.

I seriously hope your kidding about the daycare/ childcare worker comment. What do you even know about child development? Are you saying it makes no difference if children are taught by people who know nothing about early childhood development? Children who are taught by quality educators at the preschool age learn so much compared to those who are uneducated. Early childhood educators do shape childrens minds and the fact that you are so ignorant about that says a lot about how uneducated you are in the understanding of a childs development.

To Lil Angel:

I don't know who your comment was addressed to, however I want to throw in my two cents.

We're not talking about a black/white situation here. In other words, there are more choices than picking between untrained caregivers and "quality educators," as you call them.

All three of my kids went to preschools which were well-staffed and reasonably priced. We didn't have to "audition" to get in.

It's not necessary hire over-priced snobs to give your child a good pre-school experience.

It may even be harmful. One of the things I worried about is that the obnoxious sense of entitlement exhibited by the school proprietors in this film might rub off on the children. Then you have little monsters in the making. People who expect the best at all times, demand the best at all times, and believe they deserve it. If their expectations are not met, they lash out at those around them.

Why can't minorities have chances to excel? And before you start no, I'm white.

I assume you're being facetious.

Minority quotas help under-privileged people get a chance.

Julia is clearly not under-privileged; did you even see the movie?

I almost hate to admit it but I agree. The family is wealthy and the daughter is biracial; private schools like to have the appearance of being diverse; she's got just enough color for the school to keep up the image of diversity and the right amount of green and status.
