What happened to the Kight Rider 2008 TV series

First off, I am a really big fan of the classic original series. And I personally really liked the pilot movie. It was well paced and had an interesting storyline. But then I saw the first episode of the actual TV series.

One of the things that made the original series great was that KITT, though advanced in a way that was not possible at the time, was within the realm of possibility of the near future. This trait was shared in the replacement in the 2008 TV movie, but in the TV series it went overboard with the fantastic tech of not even possible 50 years from now.

The original KITT used sonics, microwaves, lasers, and a make believe polymer that was impervious to most attacks[mainly bullets]. This was tech that was not only possible but a lot of it actually existed at the time. The KITT from the TV movie used a make believe computer controlled nano polymer that allows it to alter it's appearance superficially and "heal" from various attacks and even withstand a full on impact. A solar technology as well as some of the old tricks from the original series, coupled with a connection to the internet and the ability to use it effectively. Again, REAL tech coupled with some stuff that may actually exist in 10 years. Then we have the KITT for the TV series. Lets see how realistic that one is. It can "transform" into lots of different cars(including a truck, laughable at best), it has a complete heads up display on the windshield, and in the KARR adaptation can transform into effing Optimus Prime(reeeeealy dumb).

I think that when the TV series started some NBC execs saw the huge box office take ins of the Transformers movies and thought that they should make KITT look and act exactly like that to cash in on their following. This was the big mistake. Transformers is pure unadulterated fantasy and Knight Rider was based in a world exactly like our own. The new KITT for the TV series was ridiculously unrealistic.

Couple all of that with the giant government conspiracy of doom, no truly independent Foundation for Law And Government and it was completely unwatchable to any but the most devout and hopeful fans. When it aired, I watched the first ep and immediately stopped watching the show(I know about the KARR thing from forums like these.).

TL:DR The series would have done well had they stuck to some of the original series concepts and kept KITT like he was in the TV movie pilot.
