An overworked cliche

Why do scriptwriters like to show white people going to African-Americans for advice about life? This idea was fresh when Twain wrote "Huck Finn," but it's been overworked.

Due to their heavy discrimination in the past, stigmitization as sub-humans and widespread poverty...African-Americans are thought to be more authentic and true, the last couple of decades the phrase has been "keepin' it real". Thus they are seen as having a deeper general life wisdom and more straightforward common sense.
