The examination

I pretty sure that there should not have been blood on the OB/GYN gloved fingers when he examined her or the internal ultra sound scan thing.
When your pregnant blood is bad, isn't it?

It wasn't blood it was Betadine

Sorry, from the UK here, what is Betadine?

Betadine is a type of iodine antiseptic commonly used in hospitals. The usual method is if they have to perform surgery, they wash the area of the incission with it. As a child, it would have been common for my parents to put it on cuts/wounds, but I don't see people do that anymore. It is still commonly used in surgical applications. It would not be used during an intravaginal ultrasound, that was supposed to be blood.

in the movie the doctor specifically said ...."ahh...blood...don't worry, it's perfectly normal" or something like that.

reply

It wasn't betadine, it was blood. And I agree with the OP, that would NOT be normal at such an early stage in the pregnancy.

Thanks for agreeing with me as I recently had one of those scans. I live in the UK & they used a clear jelly & there was no colour of any kind when it was removed. I saw this film & was quite alarmed at that scene. As for the betadine I believe we do use it in the UK, I've woken up after an op & my tummy was painted like a browny yellow colour. They wouldn't use that in an internal ultrasound.
Oooh, quite disturbing & by no means 'normal'

When I had my exam there was blood. It is not abnormal for women to bleed throughout their pregnancy. As long as it's not a lot or accompanied by severe pain, there is no reason for panic. Some women are simply smaller in that area and it bleeds a little when something is inserted.

I was married over 20 years, and had two children, but my husband has never been in the room with during a pelvic exam. Am I the only one? Have any of you guys felt the need to see your wife's or gilfriend's cervix?

reply

It's normal. There was brown blood when the ultrasound wand was removed from me. My pregnancy is perfectly fine. The cervix is a lot more sensitive during pregnancy. Bleeding happens quite often.
