Sanaa Lathan

I remember her being attached to this. She was going to play Ruby. Phylicia Rashad and Idris Elba were attached as well. Wonder what happened?

I would imagine it's because it's an Indie film and would be much more successful with relatively new and upcoming actors. Not sure but that's my guess...

I think Lathan, Elba, and Rashad would have exposed it to a wider audience. Regardless, it appears to be a well made film.

I think it's great they gave new actors these roles. It's nice to see new faces and the faces of those you never saw too much of. We can't only give a few people opportunities. Gets boring after a while.

I think a film like this would've been great for Sanaa's career. She's not been doing much as of late except for Boss, which just cancelled, and another movie that was suppose to be an HBO film, but HBO pulled out and decided not to do it.

Big name actors from time to time will do indie film projects. She did that flop with Matthew Broderick so why not this.

Well, the choice was Emayatcy's gain. She took that role and ran with it. Brilliantly performed by her, she's just got a nod for IFC's Spirit Awards, she won another recently for best newcomer (forgot the name), and some think the film MIGHT make the Oscars list. I think maybe if there's an independent category.

It certainly deserves other categories.
