According to a March 30, 2008, L.A. Times article on up and coming black filmmakers, writer-director Ava DuVernay's THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE is "a romantic drama ... about a woman whose life is turned upside down when her husband is imprisoned."

Director Ava DuVernay, huh? A name to remember. I hope to learn more about it soon. I think black filmmakers are going to tell some interesting stories about people of color in 2009...

The cast is beastly, so the movie has to be good.

It sounds like it'll be a good movie. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I misquoted what the main character Ruby said. "The past has disappeared and the future, it doesn't exist until we get there".
I was referring to when you said "not dwell too much on da future and just live in da moment" was similar to Ruby's quote. And if you apply it to the movie, it has a lot of meaning. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been used, right? =)
Ruby had to let go of the dreams she once had for her future. She had to let go of her husband. She had so much stress from living in her past. Nothing was coming out of it for her. Her husband's prison sentence got extended. Sometimes when you expect certain outcomes, the total opposite occurs instead. Obviously, that had to have thrown her off emotionally which intensified her pain. She needed a change.
Although that quote is pretty vague, the quote has meaning depending on what experiences you apply to it. Maybe not to you but I personally love it.

it wuz still weak story. da chance of inmate havin affair inside jail is like almost zero. him gettin a willy up his arse is 100%. so realistically, his wife wud be jealous of dat...lol. also wat does it say she gave up on his bec of 1 affair?

A man is sentenced to a long prison term, and his wife must deal with the consequences of his absence. Lots of movies take the point of view of the prisoner, but this film focuses on the problems of those left the outside.

With so many people behind bars in the USA (The United States locks up more people, per capita, than any other nation on Earth), I thought it was enlightening and refreshing to show how this massive Prison Industrial Complex affects the families of the incarcerated.
