If the Ancient One was still alive when Thanos went on with his Quest, would the Avengers have fared any better?

Theres a potential Plot hole in Avengers IW that is so Simple and Infuriating it Literally ruins the movie....
The Defeat of Thanos could have been done Literally by one person....Without ever throwing a single punch or even getting within 20 ft of him....
The exact way of the person defeating Thanos was done and shown Many times already in Doctor Strange, Thor Ragnarok and within the first 15 mins of Avengers IW itself
once you here this plot hole....It will blow your mind you didnt think of it before and you'll instantly think OMG this ruins the movie, Thanos was literally no Threat....
It took me 25 minutes of thinking and to find the answer to this "Plothole" and The reason why I call it a "Potential" plothole is because.....There truly is only 1 possible answer to it.....and Luckily it completely covers it
So here it goes...in Doctor Strange, Thor Ragnarok and in AIW....When Doctor Strange makes a Portal....If something goes through that portal and Strange closes it before it goes All the way through...It just Immediately cuts whatever that is off or in half....
example In AIW during the fight in between Tony, DS, SM vs Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf in the first 15 mins of the movie....Strange creates 2 portals that result in a car getting cut directly in half when he closed it too soon and Black Dwarfs hand/forearm getting cut off when the Portal is closed....
so heres the STUNNER.....Thanos has the Infinity Gaunlet....why doesnt Strange just open a Portal and close it directly on Thanos Arm and cut the Gaunlet off...We already see him literally do the exact same thing to Black Dwarf in the first 15 minutes of the film....
Or forget cutting the arm/Gauntlet off...If he just wanted to kill him..He could do what he did in Thor 3
In Thor Ragnarok Thor and Loki are standing on the street...Strange creates a portal that makes loki drop street through the street into space where he falls for 30 mins......
Strange could have stood 20 feet away from Thanos and created a portal underneath him that made Thanos drop straight through his ship or Ground and close it when he was half way through instantly cutting him in half and killing him....
take a moment and think about this....Its so simple its Mind Blowing....
and like I said, Theres is only 1 possible answer to this Plothole...and Luckily It not only covers this plothole, but IMO the writers of the Movie Literally Wrote and designed The Movie around it to cover this Potential plothole
