Horrible pacing?

Maybe I fell asleep or something, but is it me or the buildup to Doctor Strange being a badass was terrible.

One shot he's struggling to open a simple portal, next one (the very same night) he reads the book thing and figures out how to use the Eye amulet and all of a sudden he's pretty badass, able to kinda go head to head with the enemy.

FF another 10 minutes (few hours in movie time) he's the ultimate badass.

So according to the movie in the space of 2 days he went from terrible novice to actual Doctor Strange.

Huge turnoff tbh.
