Stan Lee....STAHP

Anyone else sick of Stan Lee cameos? Really takes me out of the experience...you wouldn't see JK Rowling turn up in a Harry Potter movie....

reply

Nope. They're Tony the Tiger great. His cameo in Deadpool was the best of them all.

reply

Ahhh maybe you guys don't like getting lost in movies like I do....I wanna get swept up in them..seeing Stan (as cool as he is, I do like the guy) just reminds me I'm actually in the real world still

reply

The curse of being too informed I guess?

I mean, if you didn't know who he was you'd never even notice and stay "lost" as it were. But since you (and most people on these boards) do know who he is it seems it pulls you out. Similar to how any cameo by some unexpected actor might.

They've never bothered me personally and I do get "lost" in my own way too.

Different strokes for different folks.

For example, I find the term "stahp" to be irritating and silly. But that's just me.

Reading my signature constitutes admission that I am correct. (Too late)

i think it's nice.

I'm sorry to hear his cameos ruin the films for you and offer my sympathy.

I'm not a comics fan and don't recognize Stan Lee when I see him. When I've seen his cameos in the Marvel films, I've been amused by what he does and says and always wonder why so many people are laughing so hard. Eventually I find out the inside joke that it's him.

I feel Marvel has always handled his cameos well so they don't ruin the film for people who don't get that this is the guy who created the comic book characters.

"Tony Stank" is funny whether or not you knew that the delivery guy was Stan Lee.

reply

I would have thought they seem out of place if you didn't recognise stan....they're usually right in the middle of a big action or chase scene...just a random old guy making a joke!

Just be glad they don't affect your viewing experience!! Can you imagine trying to get lost in a movie and suddenly seeing the creator of the movie, it's v annoying lol

reply

Creator of the *character* (before I get corrected!)

reply

Okay I have to say I see your POV. I'm a big fan of the Lord of the Rings movies and whenever I see Peter Jackson's cameo bits I don't like them.

reply

Oh wow, I didn't notice him in them and I've watched them LOADS! I won't bother looking into that cause I really don't wanna notice them lol

reply

No, they're not usually in the middle of a big action or chase scene. At least not his MCU cameos (and what the other studios (Fox and Sony) do with his cameos, that's on them... not on Marvel). Most of the MCU cameos have been during relatively 'slower' moments of the film. His Doctor Strange cameo is really the only exception (at least so far) that I can recall. It's really the only one that has taken place within a main action sequence.

Agent Hill: ...Then aliens invaded New York and were beaten back, by among others, a giant green monster, a costumed hero from the 40's.... and a god.

Agent Ward: I don't think Thor is technically a god.

Hill: Well...you haven't been near his arms.

 Moron. If five seconds of a funny little cameo are enough to ruin a whole movie for you, then well... You know what, I'm not bothering with you. Welcome to my Ignore list. *click*

Did I say it ruins the whole movie?

Who's the moron that can't read a post?!

reply

Ignore WeirdRaptor. He's a stupid little manchild, a studio plant, or both, who insults anyone who dares suggest his precious MCU has any sort of flaw. People like him are what's wrong with the fandom.

On topic, I understand what you mean. They could start going the route of the first two Spider-Man movies where he just has a quick blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance.

MCU? DCEU? Neither: They both suck.

reply

Ahhhh I thought he was a bit quick to block me, seems like he's used to it!!

And yea I'd be down for that, kinda like where's waldo, just sneak him in a crowd somewhere....but I really feel like stopping a big scene for full screen Stan is a bit much

reply

If it really does take you out of the movie may I suggest...AVOID HITCHCOCK MOVIES!

I fell asleep during INCEPTION BUT I FEEL like I still saw it!

reply

Comparing Stan Le(bowicz) to Alfred Hitchcock, who Lee seems to think he is, is like comparing Leper shit to pure gold.

Keep in mind that Hitch never spoke in any of his scene walk-throughs. He was always in the background, on the edges, like the most truly funny stuff in MAD Magazine or in the Airplane movies. That subtlety is what made Hitch’s cameos so funny. Le(bowicz) insists on opening his yap in almost all of his cameos, bringing the action to a screeching halt, no matter for how short a time. Hitch was/is a genius. Le(bowicz) is an arrogant footnote in the history of film.

Actors play different roles all the time. Why would one guy who shows up in all the movies take you out of that? The problem is, you had that thought at one point in time a while back, and now every time you see him it reminds you of that. You need to reprogram your mind to not think that way. If you like being immersed in the story, you're holding yourself back by thinking that. It all ties into one of the main themes of this movie in particular, you need to forget everything you know. Its like politics, just because you don't want something doesn't mean you should take it away from people who do because it upsets your delicate sensibility.

Take your flunky and dangle.

reply

It's nothing like politics! You're over thinking it and trying to sound clever online. Why not just reprogram your mind not to need Stan in the movies?

I actually like his cameos. Plus, it fits in with him being The One Above All, who is basically the most powerful being in comics and is omnipresent.

reply

Love the cameos. I'll miss him if he stops doing them.

reply

Well, he’ll be dead soon, so brace yourself.
