Wasn't this supposed to outgros Suicide Squad

Everyone on this board was saying that this movie is guaranteed to outgorss Suicide Squad but judging by the numbers it definitely won't, even with China. It's kind of weird because substance wise it's the best MCU movie so far, maybe second to Civil War.

Nope. Almost nobody did.

Yeah right.

Proof?

Because I can actually find proof that people on this board were saying $600m-$700m.

And please, don't come to me with one or two nuts. You said everyone, and while you might not really mean "everyone", I take it to mean a vast majority, or at least a majority.

reply

Yeah right. Proof?

"Doctor Strange hits 492m After only a week of release. Will trounce Suicide Squad by the end of the month."

"DCEU is curbstomped yet again."

"I just wrote Doctor strange only needs 150 more and I'll be damn he made it already."

"I wouldn't be surprised if it passes Suicide Squad internationally, especially since it has a China release and SS didn't"

"Doctor Strange moving up in box office rank, closing in on Suicide Squad"

"If a bad film like suicide squad can make that much without china then surely so can this."

"IMO If SS and BVS succeeded in getting 700+ this will do too."

It did pass Suicide Squad internationally. Haven't checked your links, but that one at least is true.

If your theater is a space safe from ideas and opinions, you're doing theater wrong.

We are still waiting for that proof.

Nobody is going to re-read the entire board for you. Just look at any of the pre-release threads about box office predictions. Most people expected DS to do better than Ant-Man, but not as well as it has done. Cherry-picking from a few troll-baiting threads does not change the majority opinion.

Arthur, put the kettle on and dig out those lemon hand wipes.

reply

Its still funny those trolls were completely wrong and now they have vanished. poof!

reply

Just looked at your first thread. It's from the BvS board and sounds mostly like people trolling the DCEU fans there.

The OP specifically said "everybody on this board."

The second thread is from the DS board and the most damning quotation is the one that indicates that DS can get over $700M if BvS and SS can. It doesn't predict DS beating either film, just states the belief that the film can surpass $700M.

The third link, also from this board, is someone asking if it will pass SS and a bunch of responses saying no it won't. Even the OP only concludes, "We shall see."

The OP specifically said "everybody on this board."

Obviously, it's very easy to prove the OP wrong. He said "everyone," so if you're going to take the word "everyone" literally, you only need to point to one or more examples proving otherwise and you'd be right. So that's what you did. Good for you.

But look at the counterarguments to the OP: "Nope. Almost nobody did," "Yeah right," "Nope. No one here said that," etc. These responses are also clearly wrong, as these boards are clearly filled with plenty of examples of Marvel fans incorrectly boasting about by how much Doctor Strange will beat DC, will beat Suicide Squad, and so on.

I only posted links to three comment threads, not because that was all I could find, but because these boards are filled with so many comments like those that it should be obvious to you if you bothered to admit it. Or just deny and dismiss every example of it as simply "trolling the DCEU fans" if you don't want to admit it.

A-to-ZZZ is known to troll DC. And a bunch of trolls I can't read because I ignore trolls.

Second link I can't read because I ignore trolls.

Third link is a question in which the majority of people answer no/doubtful, including myself.

If you think "everybody" is equal to a few trolls, then there's nothing to be said.

In this post, the OP has high hopes, but others are more reasonable. Especially the people who frequent the Marvel boards. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1211837/board/thread/263053472?d=263053472#263053472

Nope. No one here said that. We were delighted enough to find it exceeded expectations on opening weekend and then when it became the highest earning Marvel Solo film.

Suicide Squad had a lot of Hype and was a team up movie. Infinity Wars would have been a better comparison.

reply

Well I already had exhaustive arguments on here about why Doctor Strange wouldn't make more than Suicide Squad nor make more than Fantastic Beasts. And it didn't.

reply

I wasn't here before the movie's release, but I can't remember seeing too many people anywhere who had Strange higher than Suicide Squad in their BO predictions, at least not often and if so not by much.

Most predictions were between Ant-Man and the $650 million it will soon surpass.

reply

Lol. "Everybody" was saying that a relatively-unknown Marvel character was going to out-gross a movie that had Harley Quinn; the Joker; Batman; Will Smith and the first on-screen appearance of the Flash??

Haha. Sure.

reply

Exactly. "Everyone" was expecting DS to perform as well as, or perhaps a little better than, Ant-Man.

reply

That's a good point. :)

Personally, I hadn't seen much of that.

If you think he's a relative unknown you should see their actual D list.

I'm just talking about general film-goers. I don't think that Doctor Strange was anywhere on the radars of those who weren't avid comic book fans.

reply

Even with my less than stellar expectations for SS and my higher than most's expectations for DS, even I was never expecting Strange to out-perform SS. I figured it might be close, but I always expected SS to come out on top.

Now after having seen them both, I'm a bit surprised it wasn't even closer. SS still managed to come out ahead by ~$92 million. But that's after it was discoverd how awful the film was and how much better Strange was compared to expectations.

SS was hot...dr kiddd floped

reply

Hot as in a dumpster fire.

Doctor STRANGE(God did you skip kindergarten?) has made almost as much money as Suicide Squad in less than half the time.

When Doctor Strange was first announced I never expected it to make anywhere near what it already has. I was hoping for at least Wolverine numbers, and maybe Ant-Man movies at Best. To me it simply doesn't matter. It's already a bona-fide hit. Pretty surprised they haven't announced a sequel yet.

It's not the most reliable site, but here are some comments from the director about DS2:

They did. Mordo's to be the villain and they're talking about bringing in Clea. That's like announcing water is wet.

reply

It was supposed to but I suppose it wasn't a very good movie.
