...when you're disguised and you're not behaving suspiciously?
Also I was on the steam boards for TF2 and noticed a thread where people were bragging about tricking the noobs by doing things like, and this is just one example, jumping off a building in 2Fort as a scout and thus receiving damage, whereupon they spam the medic button, thereby fooling the opposite team into thinking the scout is a spy. How on earth does this work, I don't get it?
Sometimes they don't know you're a spy, they just shoot at you anyways. Thats what I do when I see anybody just walking around, I shoot them a couple times just to check (you can't hurt your own teammates by shooting). If there's a pyro, they will do a spy check where they just blast some fire on everybody; its quick and easy and it works.
As for your second question, I don't understand it myself.
1. They're randomly spychecking. 2. You ARE doing something suspicious, you just don't realize it. 2b. Perhaps you did someting suspicious two minutes ago and they saw you and they've been hunting around for you ever since. Sometimes I'll sneak into the enemy base and be spotted by a far-off enemy as I run out of cloak power. It's amazing how persistant some of them are at tracking you down. 3. You have their name. 4. They saw you cloak/uncloak.
They might just bump into you. You can't go through an opposite team member or the things they build. I put dispensers in doorways to slow down spies. When something happens to that dispenser, everyone gets spy-checked.
when your shooting a spy who's disguised, does it show their health going down as you shoot them? It seems like it always stays the same (im talking about when you target somebody and see their name & health bar). that seems to throw me off, but maybe im crazy
No michalo6, you're right. When I'm an Engineer, I would shoot a disguised Spy 2-3 times and their health doesn't go down at all and I let them pass without realizing they really are spies. Now I shoot disguised Spies 4-5 which kills them most of the time, even if their health is half full.
This reminds me of a tip I read, you can tell if a person is a Spy or not by their health. Spies that are disguised never have full health, even if the Spy himself as full health; his disguise will always show maybe 3/4 or 1/2 health.
So long story short, Disguised Spies usually show 1/2 or 3/4 that doesn't go down when you shoot them, thus you have to shoot them 4-5 times to make sure (maybe even less).

That's when they first don their disguise, but if they pickup a health pack after that, they will appear to have healed.

Oh really? I did not think of that before, it makes sense. Still, 90% of the Spies I've encountered haven't had full health. I'll keep that in mind when I'm a spy though
one important thing I learned as a spy...never look the enemy in the eye. most teammates in tf2 play close attention to teammates and its odd to see someone running towards you. do not give the enemy a chance to see you, and stay cloaked most of the time.
