Maeve Dermody

Sure it was a simple part in a simple film but in the movie "Black Water" our Maeve showed a lot of promise and in fact stole the show a couple of years ago.

Ffwd to now... I think the scene in Beautiful Kate where Ben Mendelson shafts it to her up the pooper eloquently sums up how I felt this whole excursion treated Maeve and her career (temporarily lets hope). Sure there were some famous Oz actors to pal around with and be seen with but what can these old farts with high profiles really do for young Maeve other than overshadow her?

And what a part - what lines. Doesn't 'stupid bitch without a cause' pretty much sum up the caricature of Toni?

Pooper???? there are more things in life than the missionary position, sport, but then again, your terminology leads me to assume you're a Yank....what does your comment REALLY have to do with the film though....

Could you try making more sense please?

reply

Well, it probably was the most exciting thing in the film to this scene.
The whole thing was tedious and Ms Ward has no idea of developing parts or plots.
Liked the scenery though.

I agree hoopdaddy - except her acting wasn't that good, and her character was pointless. When she disappeared from the movie altogether I thought 'huh?' since I thought the movie was about HER not Ned. Her dialogue was crap - she did nothing but be a cow to Sally and take her top of sometimes.

Her character was mainly there to show how Ned was still messed up, using women and fantasizing about having sex with Kate. He was also drawn to young women closer to the age of Kate than women closer to his own age.

She didn't have much use for the story after that and left at the right moment. Furthermore, when Ned tries to run her car off the road to stop her from leaving, he sustains an injury to his forehead - he had similar injury the night he had sex with Kate in the lake.
