Jesse's Mother (spoilers?)

Jesses' mother bugged me. I really wanted to shake some sense into her when the school officials where telling her that she needed to spend more time with her daugther and she got all offended. I liked it when the black woman said to her "yes I have seen Jesse play lacrosse. Have you?"

To leave your teenage child alone, without any adult supervision, for long stretches of time just boggles my mind. Jesse had NO-ONE. Not one person. it seemed as if everyone had virtually abandoned her. What a sad, sad, existence and all she wanted was to spend time with her mother or someone who loved and cared about her.

The scene when Jesses' mother is driving off in a cab to go somewhere to do something and Jesse is pleading with her mother, begging her mother for one minute of undivided attention and the cab drives off and Jesse falls to the ground, was a truly heart-wrenching scene. How cold could she be? Her mother comes back to get her in the end but it's like too little to late woman. You should have done this a long time ago.

I agree completely. The "cab scene" was difficult to watch. I was confused with the "sex montage" of boys Jesse slept with before the actual cab scene occurred. I love that to some extent Tosha (sp?) didn't give up on Jesse, and she wanted her to have more self-respect. She knew Jesse was much better than what she pretended to be. This was a spectacular film, and for it being such a familiar story it had interesting characters (both likeable and unlikable).

The mom was revolting. The Taxi Cab scene broke my heart as well. Even though she came back for her she wasn't happy about it. Her facial expression when they were toghether in the taxi cab showed that she wasn't happy about her daughter coming with her. She was nothing more than an inconvenience to her. I was sad for Jessica.

"Game's the same, just got more fierce."

Jesse's mother was the only character in this movie that didn't seem realistic to me. Maybe they were trying to draw a parallel to Tosha's brother.
