confused...

Hey just saw the movie last night and loved it but I'm a little confused when the blond chick saw Tosha with the DJ guy why did she feel the need to hook up with him what was going through her head? Why did she want to be Tosha's friend but no other girls friend? I understand she was acting out because of her mom but she just confused me a little. Oh why was Tosha's mom so negative her daughter got into an ivy league school but she acted as if she could care less. Someone from an upper class family who gets into an ivy league solely with hard work is an accomplishment.

I'm going to respond to as many of your questions as possible. First, girls are evil and jealous by nature. She was only interested in him after she saw that he was interested in Tosha. The other girls knew about Jessy's bad reputation so they didnt want to get involved with her. She's clearly a little messed up and it's not entirely her mom's fault. Tosha's mom was proud that her daughter got further than she did but they've obviously never had a great mother/daughter relationship. It would've made more sense for them to show Tosha and her mother bonding but I guess they might have had to cut the scene in the final editing session. I hope that helps you.

What Jesse saw was intimacy and a budding loving relationship between Tosha and Rashid. This is something Jesse wants badly and sees Rashid as the conduit to being loved.

None of the other girls would go near Jesse which is hinted at somewhere in the beginning as she has a bad reputation (has been to 4 schools in the last year?). Tosha was the only girl that befriended her. Tosha was truly her only friend.

I think the negativity coming from Tosha's mother can be interpreted differently. Tosha's mother worked many hours to be able to send Tosha to the private school and college. As a result, Tosha's mom was visibly absent from her life (you always see her Tosha's mother in her uniform either coming or going to work), leaving Tosha's grandmother to raise & mold her. When Tosha gets beat up, it is not her mom who is there to comfort her but her grandmother. I think Tosha's mother was definitely proud of her daughter but feels the void that was left by her absence. So there maybe some guilt there manifesting itself as something else.

I am confused about something different: Near the end, Jesse's mother is driving away, and Jesse is crying hysterically. Then, suddenly, they are both riding in the car with Tosha and her mother. Why? What did I miss? What did Jesse decide in the principal's office? Tosha is going to Pr., isn't she? Are they driving to Howard instead?
