This movie defines EPIC FAIL.

God it's so bad.

This is the Lifetime Movies version of a war movie (no really, I think it seriously might have been made for LM). It is just insulting to anyone who loves war movies - I couldn't even finish it.

For true war movie enthusiasts... this movie is beyond horrible. even for ANY movie enthusiasts... this movie is freakin horrible. I seriously think it was made by a high school A/V club of Seattle hippy vegetarian teens - or - a woman (with no offense to Katherine Bigelow of course). It's even worse than that steaming pile of crap Miracle At St. Anna. The acting is godawful, the dialogue is laughable (literally, you will laugh at how these guys deliver their lines), the costumes and props are horribly inaccurate and fake, and the whole script is just mind-blowingly bad. And please don't expect anything CLOSE to realistic combat action... this movie is 90%+ a "people story" - not a war movie.

Calling this a war movie - hell, even a MOVIE - is being way too gracious. I am 100% positive I've seen better from WWII TV-movies (which I'm not convinced this wasn't).

LOL. Not 1 valid argument about the crappy movie - just asinine personal insults. Sigh... pretty standard I suppose.

Btw, I think I just half-way deciphered your ridiculous rant... but did you seriously attack me on eBay... on IMDB...? What... the... hell? LOL... you've just gone WAY beyond incredibly stupid.

reply

Did you even see this movie? Are you even talking about the same one? Or maybe this is all because this was not some video game and it just could not keep your attention? If so, apparently your inability to critique films and historical content is as poor as your ability to READ! Geez! You said: "costumes and props are horribly inaccurate and fake" which clearly demonstrates your grossly lacking and absurd knowledge of WW2 (ie: its uniforms, weapons, vehicles, clothing, dialogue, and history in general, etc.). As I stated before: because EVERYTHING used in that movie was the ORIGINAL article.

So, how a fish tank blogging 'want-to-be' film critic from Smartsville, Mississippi, that has no life, but has time to trash films that he has NEVER seen (as they are not even out yet), and content he says is fake (but is actually ALL original), and say's the story, "...is just mind-blowingly bad" yet it was directly adapted from a true real life story of a WW2 veteran during the Battle of the Bulge ....SHOWS me only ONE thing about YOU ....only someone that is "WAY beyond incredibly stupid", would retain such a "steaming pile of crap" for such a so called opinion. As for the film, I actually DID see it..and I liked it. So did EVERY single veteran that viewed it (all different wars and combat vets too). Nonetheless, there is NEVER a need to defend a good film from a know-it-all who, is nothing more then an obtuse narcissist, that loves reading his own tripe. Thus, your clearly nothing more then an obvious TROLL. GAME OVER

it is out, there is a torrent which is probably how that guy found it, seems like the type.

i doubt his review is going to put anyone off though, anyone that uses 'EPIC FAIL' in a movie review smells like teen spirit to me.

clearly not enough PWNAGE in this movie for him

reply

Well if you are a war movie buff that likes "Battle of the bulge", "Talvisota" and "Framom främsta linjen" and the like then this movie is awful and boring. Not even worth to see it even if you've found it for free somewhere.

reply

Not so much a fail as a victim of bad casting, acting, and writing.
Which is a nice way of saying it has some technical flourishes,
but really suffers from too much saying, not enough showing.

And HD makes even big budget stuff look cheap. Seen Public Enemies?

I agree with the OP sentiment, if not their tone. Skip it.

well, you can't say it's really bad acting.

the story is similar to the story of an old game called Call of Duty 2, where the main character was taking part at the Battle of the Normandy, Crossing of the Rhine etc. The game has been appreciate for the way the story was told and how the player was put in the middle of the action.

coming back to the movie, i would say that the movie has some things in common with the storytelling from the game. if someone used it as inspiration, that i don't know. but it follows almost the same lines.

the screenplay is simple: X gets drafted, X is going to war, X looses his comrades, X sees the horrors of war, X goes back home and starts a family.
you can't get more simple than that. from what i read, the screenplay follows the memories of the main character. so if you don't like the writing, then you don't like facts, real things. this is not Sci-Fi.

acting and casting : the budget of the film wasn't that big, so no wonder there are no famous actors. for me that's alright, but if you think that you need a good actor in a movie just to make the movie " good " then you are terrible wrong. Crash , the movie , had actors which were not that well known to the public. the movie took an Oscar.
coming back to the actors, well they are new, most of the have little to no experience. can't expect from them to have tons and tons of experience but they do a good job for their training. dunno why you want " more " ???!!!!

reply

Yes, some of the acting was a it weak by mainstream movie/tv standards, but that's not always a bad thing. These actors were playing real people, and let's face it most people aren't that animated or dynamic in real life. Sometimes underacting or plain speech can give a movie a very realistic quality. Unless you're trying to do some sort of accent, or portray someone famous. Unfortunately by show biz standards it usually smacks of low budget production.

This movie was certainly not epic fail by any means.

Are you joking? Actors that were not well known yet?

Sandra Bullock
Don Cheadle
Tony Danza
Keith David
Matt Dillon
William Fichtner
Brendan Fraser
Terrence Howard
Larenz Tate

That's quite a few "A" and top "B" list actors/actresses for a movie you claim had unknowns to the public. Even in 2004 those were all stars.

You are so right, i almost died by watching, whos respensible for such crap?
I really love war movies, but that?
Nice try making the Germans speak german, but that german is even worse than my pidgin english. (and i am not even german).

I cant understand things like this, who allowes it to happen, i mean, there has got to be soomeone that says "it sucks" in the team that makes it?

Horrible!
