Very well done considering.

The actors were amateur or just beginning their careers. The dialogue was not epic but then again real people in real life say pretty inane things.

Special effects? OK - not much budget for that but we have imaginations and can tell what they mean.

Nice simple story - must have been tens of thousands like him. Nothing really heroic to report but did his duty, made it home, made a good life.

A big budget star studded version would never get made - so I'm glad they did it this way.
