Family affair

I noticed the director and writer were both called Smith, as was the main character.
Anyone know if they are his grandkids or something - is this a labour of love?
I liked it - it wasnt a masterpiece, but I don't think it was pretending to be. Just the story of an ordinary and extraordinary man.
Cheers, Nick

YES, the director and writer are the sons (Craig eldest and Thad youngest) of the of the real life main character (SSgt. Don Smith) as depicted in the film.

Yes it was a Labor Of Love ... from the sons to the dad ... and for that I give this film a hell of a lot of credit!

The film was not a studio effort ... it was a community project based out of Astoria Oregon ... by a group of folks who were barely professional ... and it was very low budget ($720,000).

When you consider this ... you have to admit that it is pretty impressive!

Thank you Don Smith for your service. You sacrifice makes us all proud to be American!!!
