what was the point in the police???

i did not like the ending by the way...what was the point in showing that everyone could have killed her...and all their reactions (including emily) were over the top in the last sequence...

BUT seriously, what was the point in having the police there...talking about the case, 'let's go and find the killer' blah blah blah....if in the end, the dad's girlfriend was crying and saying i'm sorry with the police in the room, or background, then it would have made sense why they were there.

they didn't add anything to drama, so why were they there????
