Is it always mean that straight to DVD movies is crappy?

enjoyable to watch. but don't expect more.

Yeah, pretty much.

Movies like this ride the momentum (more or less) of their parent movies--think about all the direct-to-DVD American Pie movies. There is a built-in audience that you don't need to attract by spending millions in marketing. Add that with the relatively low budgeting costs of these types of movies and a movie studio is guaranteed to make a profit.

Naturally, since these aren't big budget movies, you won't get A-grade actors, writers, or SFX. With that taken into consideration, there are always diamonds in the rough.

Not to say this movie would be one, but you never know...

If you compare this movie to The marine, which was with bigger budget, cinema released and the biggest wwe star at the time,i find this movie better, not as in my top 10 list, but much better then the marine...

mr. kennedy did well than cena in marine. not to mention kane. what was that movie?

reply

Excellent DtV slasher flick and a lot better than those "adapted from a Japanese spooky movie" theatrical releases they've been shoving down our throats.

I have to agree, wrong turn 2 was a suprisingly good movie, not as good as the first but still good.

However this Behind Enemy lines is crap, and I am saying this as a Mr. Kennedy fan.

I don't get the generalizations.

Dolph Lundgren has done some DTV these last couple of years, and the MAJORITY of them have been great, SURELY a hell of a lot better than most of the crap that gets a huge theatrical release. Hell, even Jean-Claude Van Damme gets in there and does some good work. Just because a movie is DTV, does not mean it has bad actors, weak story, crap like that.

An "advantage" to me, is that they aren't at the mercy of the MPAA for a "proper" rating since the movie isn't going to be seen in major theaters.

You just have to know what you are getting into before you decide to check them out. But with Dolph Lundgren's recent stuff, you don't have to worry because he knows what he is doing these days, especially when he's the director.

And to add, just because an actor is starring in a DTV film, does not mean they're flat broke. My guy Dolph Lundgren gets paid MILLIONS to do them.

Not all, but most, because they are on a small budget. They are made quickly, sometimes in the space of a couple of weeks, in order not to retain a crew for a long length of time, meaning fewer takes, meaning that they have to go with what they get most of the time. Added to the fact that an A-List production and editing crew is out of the question, the odds are always heavily against a DTV movie being good.

I would love to agree with you all that all DTV are crap but its not true. All three of the Futurama movies thus far have been great. Bender's Big Score was on of my favorite movies of 2007. So, most are crap but not all.

I disagree that Cena was the top WWE star at the time of the marine. He was getting booed out of every arena he was wrestling in.

Looking at the cast of BHL-C I was surprised that the director is a somewhat well known actor, Tim Matheson. Not sure how they got him to direct this movie.

The biggest market for DTV movies are rental places like Blockbuster and Netflix. The movie companies give the stores a really great price break and they buy them in bulk. They are desperate to get the movies into the public and they know no sane person would drop full price to own this 2nd sequel of movie franchise that wasn't too good to begin with (exactly like the bring it on franchise). When I was working at a blockbuster we would get a huge shipment of the latest Steven Segal movie and it would almost never get rented. This happened like four times and one of the Segal movies a few weeks later was premiering on USANetwork.

Well known to people mostly over the age of 50. He hasn't been relevant in comedy or acting since Animal House.
