I thought it was pretty bad..

Let me start off by saying I love Sly. And to be honest, he wasn't too bad in this but...it's time to hang it up as an action star.

The plot was so basic. I mean, without expecting too much from a Rambo movie, I at least thought they would come up with something better than 'Cartel stole his granddaughter (or whatever she is)'.

Also, it's a bit strange that someone with the survival instincts of Rambo would save this girl from her drug dealing father and drive what seemed about 30 minutes over the border and live there with her. Why not take her up north somewhere? I mean all she had to do to find her father was drive an hour and ask a friend.

Stallone's face is so expressionless now, and he can't anunciate very well. This makes for a tough watch. I can still somewhat buy him as a tough guy, but some of his acting was pretty brutal in this.

Cool end battle (though it started to feel a bit Home Alone-ish), not much of anything happening beforehand. Overall I'd give it a 5.5? I dunno. It's hard to give it more than that.

It's watchable, but you kinda have to keep your eyebrows raised to get through it.

I actually liked it but only because I saw it as mindless pulp.

There are a lot of WTF moments though,

1/ No one in the family could see the girl was going to see her estranged father no matter what?
2/ Special Forces Rambo does worst recon in history and is nabbed by cartel.
3/ Finally finds her and other girls. Leaves girls behind not even a call to authorities. (who are corrupt but anyway).
4/ Girls friend in Mexico is so dodgy and obviously recruits girls. How naive is she?
5/ Why does Rambo have so much military hardware at his disposal? I mean he is Rambo but still?!
6/ The film is called "Last Blood" but from what Sly says he will do another one if this goes well. Who else is he going to fight? Or is he going to team up with a Terror war veteran and basically we see First Blood all over again like we saw Rocky get repeated with Creed?

Well in part of the movie the police was brought in to have turns with the girls. You can't go to them.

Yeah I noticed that but Rambo doesn't know that for sure. It just seemed kind of weird/cold to just leave them there. But they also were too terrified to move.

I agree that it's better of you watch it as nothing more than mindless action, but at the same time, if you're going to end a franchise (supposedly), why not go out with a bang?

Its mostly my fault for expecting something better. I thought the last Rambo movie was a step up from the last couple in the series, and I figured if Stallone was doing one more, it had to have been for good reason.

I was wrong. This is just a by-the-numbers cash grab. No heart, no passion, no direction, no point. Just Rambo blowing people up. Which is cool, but even during the action, I found myself just not caring at all. Most of the movie was just filler for the end battle.

And let's be honest...even his traps sucked. Not so much as the traps themselves sucked, but they showed him setting up every single one, so when they all actually worked, there was no surprise at all. They really treated the audience like a bunch of special ed kids.

I kept wondering if Sly wrote the script himself or had somebody with no previous knowledge of the franchise take a crack at it. Whatever the case, this was no Rambo movie.

The actors were very wooden. I thought I was watching a Telemundo novela. I struggled to get through the first two acts. While the farm scene was pretty awesome, everything leading up to it just fell flat. It's like half of the crap could've been avoided with common sense.

The part where the mob ganged up on John...what? The dude was Special Forces. He could've easily taken out maybe a good five of them before being overrun. Instead, he just curls up in a ball? Age be damned; he's in pretty good shape for a guy in his 70s. I can't find a single excuse.

And that ending...pfft. It's like everybody involved knew it was going to be a major disappointment, so they threw in a few clips from the original for nostalgic purposes. It really made me want to see First Blood (1982) all over again and forget this even existed.

I can easily put this at or below the level of Rocky V (1990). It's a shame Rambo went out with such a whimper.

"1/ No one in the family could see the girl was going to see her estranged father no matter what?"

Or Rambo could've simply escort her to Mexico (and protect his naive "granddaughter" from evil people) if she wants to meet her dad so much.

If ever there was a "I can see you will do this no matter what I say so I will go with you" moment that was the one!

And yeah that was what I was getting at. So much stupid shit was "allowed" to happen to get this movie going.

1. I guess they really assumed they had talked her out of it. (But we knew better)
2. They could've killed him and the movie wouldn't ended right there.
3. I was expecting him to save the girls like he did the POWs.
4. Extremely naive. She was clearly too dumb to see it.
5. I get what you're saying. But he's Rambo! And you gotta have something for the movie!
6. Next movie: A young terrorist and his band of thugs raid a nursing home to get revenge on a senior citizen who killed his father in the war. Of course Rambo is at this nursing home and has military hardware stashed in secret places throughout the facility. You know what happens next.
