Excerpt from a review

In 2019's hypersensitive cultural environment, the depiction of murderous Mexican crime bosses and their cowering sex slaves encountering a literal white savior doesn't go down so easy.

Don't think Rambo IV got all these negative reviews back in 08...(think most are saying it'd been best had he left it at that)

RAMBO: LAST BLOOD - Could've been Stallone's "Unforgiven". Ends up being a politically dubious and very tedious "Taken 4" mixed with a riotously over the top "Home Alone"/"Mortal Kombat" fatalities mash-up - brutal kills beyond even prime Verhoeven gratuitousness.

However..its kind of difficult these days to take too much notice of reviews as quite a lot of the reviewers have all these SJW agendas now and are constantly trying to promote themselves on SM etc

Could've been Stallone's "Unforgiven".
Yeah , could've been . I'd be down with that , but i'd be in a minority.
Rambo fans wont put up with a movie where Rambo goes on a big road trip , all peaceful , refusing to get involved with any violence , telling stories to all who'll listen about how killing and violence is stupid and best avoided...
... before finally flipping out in the last 15 mins and dispensing some justice because someone close to him was hurt.

Iv did get a lot of negative reviews. But as you say they are really trying to promote themselves today. I loved the last film and I'm sure I will love this one...

reply

Funny that you say that....because there are indeed reviews that are trying to tie this into trump and the mood of the country...

Rambo 4 was ranked amongst the Top 250 films of all time for a month after its release in 08. People gave ut a standing ovation in the theater. Rambo 5 is good, but not that good.

reply

Well these negative reviews read pretty positive to me. That's exactly what I want to see.

The thing about the extreme violence (beyond even Verhoeven) I mean Rambo is known for that. Its part of what makes the franchise what it is. But this and the last Rambo had extreme violence far greater than the original films.. there was some brutal stuff in Rambo 123 of course but they really pushed it to the limit with 4 and now 5 even more .. the reason is I guess you can do more gore/violence wise via CG/make up etc and maybe the censors allow more brutal stuff now than in the 80s and stuff that would've been NC17 back then is now R.. (and in the uk Rambo 1&2 were 15, 3 was an 18. But now you have to do some crazy stuff to get an 18, even gory stuff like Alien Covenant was 15, so 4&5 are obviously 18 really bad stuff)

Creator of Rambo offers his review

I agree with these RAMBO: LAST BLOOD reviews. The film is a mess. Embarrassed to have my name associated with it.

further on he complains about the non PC nature and the sterotypes of Mexicans/drug cartels etc.. but when has Rambo ever been about being PC and non stereotypical villains? (especially the sequels)

He also offers his insights on the last one
RAMBO IV had overlong action scenes, but the director's cut has excellent dialogue and understands the character. "Wars. Old men start them. Young men fight them. Nobody wins."

Of course the reviews aren't the best...it has guns (political issue), and Mexicans (political issue), and (insert other political issues) that people can't put aside when reviewing a movie anymore.

Who give a shit if there are Mexican bad guys? Who gives a shit if there are gun fights in it?

It's a goddamn Rambo movie you morons! It sucks that politics has seeped so far into everything that these paid political cronies now review movies based on which political issues are represented or not represented and which side of the issue they feel is the right one.

I don't give movie reviews a second of my time anymore. Every one of them is paid to write a review based on the company releasing the movie, or politics. None of the reviews are worth a shit. And that also goes for reviewers who feel the need to say "yee-haw MAGA" in their review of this Rambo movie.

Just review the damn movie without your self righteous thoughts on how it will affect society and how you feel about political issues.

It's Rambo, not Oscar bait. I'm excited to see it.

reply

I've seen it yesterday and i most say it was kind of a pleasant watch. Not a masterpiece by any means, but I prefer it to the ther sequels for some reasons I'm yet to really understand.

reply

only fucking morons.... like feminists and men with no balls read reviews from paid critics, and trust them.
they are all now untrustworthy since they no longer are neutral but politically driven.... sad shit, the west is now like russia and china.

People still believe RT is relevant? I'm guessing it's the same people who think Twitter is important and that memes are art.

So the point of this thread is if you like or criticize movies you're gonna be judged on political reasons = hollywood can do anything and people will defend it to spite the other side or people will attack it to spite the other side and that still helps the studios because publicity.

I don't like what they'd done to Rambo and said the same about 4. The times we live in lack the creativity of old and our world can't do justice to things like Rambo, or Star Wars, or so on.
