Who should play Dox in the sequel?

Bear in mind that getting someone who looks the way he´s described in the book (230lbs. - buff like a mofo)
AND can act is going to be diffucult.

I nominate: Dolph Lundgren! .. But that is never gonna happen. Ever. As much fun as it would be..
So instead I nominate: Terry Crews! I know, I know. That would suddenly make Dox a black guy.
But that´s a minor squabble. Dox is a big, bad sniper with a sense of humour. I can easily see Terry
pull this character of. In fact, he would be perfect.

Any other ideas??

a black person? A southern hick? Nope that will kill every fantasy of Dox i have.....

I picture someone in between Karl Urban and Matthew McConaughey

Remember many camera tricks can make medium people look like giants :)

You´re right about the southern hick + black guy dilemma. But it could work.
Then again, I´m such a huge fan of Mr. Crews that he could play Superman and I would still be psyched..

Matthew McConaughey is southern. Yes.. But must be kept far away from the John Rain movies as possible :-)

Karl Urban? Hmmm. Maybe.. Not too sure..

Peace

Dox is not huge like the 6'5 Jack Reacher. Sure he is built like a truck but he is described at the start of Requiem as being just shy of 6 feet in height. I picture someone with the build of a UFC middleweight like Rich Franklin.

Actor wise I have thought of a bunch of people including McConaughey. Another one is Max Martini from the Unit, Diedrich Bader...

I posted a bunch of names on Barry Eisler's site but I am drawing a blank right now.

reply

The producers will probably go with a smaller guy who can act, whic is too bad.
When I think "Dox" I picture a Mac Truck equipped with a rifle...

Hollywood isn´t exactly overrun with bodybuilders who can act...

No, they give up and go into politics

reply

Well.. You´re halfway right. He was a bodybuilder. Couldn´t act though...

Just thought of another good shout for Dox - Gabriel Macht. I think he has the build that could be bulked up and he is square jawed and good looking. If he can do a southern accent he would be great.

He is playing the Spirit this winter and was also in Behind Enemy Lines (Owen Wilson's ill-fated pilot) and The Recruit so he has done his share of action/military/spy stuff.

reply

Sorry, but in my mind, even though he isn't the best actor by a longshot on the planet, the best actor to play Dox is Jake Busey. Flames ensue ...

reply

Sorry i think Jake Busey is creepy, if he played dox woman like me would be running the other way...

Sorry just a personal observation.

To me, "Dox is like a Big oversized horny care bare" :) Jake Busey is far from all those things.

I think Josh Holloway, "sawyer" from Lost would be good choice.

tall, southern accent. could be trained up. in fact, sawyer has a similar wit and a way with the ladies.

reply

I kind of imagine Dox looking like a wrestler.. Actually Dwayne Johnson could probably pull off the part given his cockiness and a passable southern accent. I know Dox is supposed to be blonde but its tough thinking of anyone else who could fit the bill

reply

How about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson?

reply

What do you guys think of Matt Schulze?

Personally I wouldn't mind, if Dox was a black guy. When I read the books, I somehow picture him as a such but of course it doesn't really fit in.

reply

Kevin Durand.

reply

The Rock would be pretty good actually. A bit big for a sniper though?

After Welcome to the Jungle (The Rundown?) I always thought he would be a good Jack Reacher if that franchise ever gets off the ground. I wish the Rock would do more action and less family comedy stuff.

Talking of wrestlers, I hope no-one is going to be daft enough to suggest John Cena for Dox. Let's be realistic here people!

reply

Thank you very much. Now I have Johnson in my head as Dox! "Finally, Dox has come back to Hong Kong! Can you smell what Dox is cooking?!"

reply

Here are some to throw into the mix -

Seann William Scott - maybe a little too young and would need to buff up a bit but maybe good at the constant wise cracks.

Matthew McConaughey - not sure about this one myself but still has some of the qualities.

Daniel Cudmore - Collossus from X Men - got the physique but a little young.

I like the Sawyer suggestion from Lost. Think that would work.

reply

Sorry hoss, there isn't going to be a sequel. The film is going to bomb. I guarantee it will go straight to DVD in the USA.

reply

Sam Worthingon, althogh he'd need asome coaching for the accent.

reply

As I was reading it I immediately thought of Dolph also but I think hes retired. O well I just want it to come to the US already!!

reply

I always read Dox as a black guy with a black mans accent anyway (even though he is clearly white).

The big white guy with the goatee and southern accent has never worked well for me.

reply

if not the Rock, they could always do Steve Austin

reply

How about Dax Shepard? I always thought the 'Dox' was based on him, big, loud, outgoing, and a bit of humor.

Every action star needs a bit of comic relief from a sidekick. Joe Pesci is retired, Seann William Scott had his run, and Rob Schneider is a bit past it. Dax Shepard is considered new and cool enough by younger people, and he has that 'white trash' bully loudmouth thing down cold.

reply

OK, this is from left field, but how about Woody Harrelson? He could certainly pull off the humor aspect of Dox's personality.

reply

He would be great. He is in shape, so he could pull off the physical look, too. If you saw him in 'Management' with Steve Zahn, he was really cut and ripped. And he can do creepy and offbeat, so that hint of violence will always be just below the surface. I like the way you think!
