Vs.’ Paranormal Activity’

Anyone seen both? Which did you prefer?

reply

This, no question. I found paranormal activity fairly dull, and with far too many moments where I was angrily second guessing the characters. And while this movie had a couple moments where I wanted to yell at the protagonists, for the most part it seemed like they were actual people with some common sense. Which makes a movie far easier to lose yourself within.

I don't see a single similarity on which to compare them.

both done from no budget.

I think they are both similar in that they are both more about building a sense of dread.

Similarity? Look at the date before replying. Both were VERY obscure horror films. It’s long before you and the masses found out about either picture.

reply

Paranormal Activity wasn't obscure, it was a highly acclaimed and marketed indie film which had the assistance of Steven Spielberg.

What the hell are you talking about?

reply

The reason I laugh is because that's such a thing similarity, if you're going to go that thin, you can find a similarity between everything.

They are both horror films. That’s more than enough to compare them on. Both obscure horror films (at the time). That makes them even more comparable. Look at my original question. Notice I asked if anyone had seen them both (very, very few would have).

reply

I do see your point, I did see PA very early on since I saw the screener copy when it was going around the festivals. So maybe I'm in the minority there, but when comparing, I don't think it's enough to compare simply on the fact that they're low budget horror films. I usually look at plot commonalities before comparing.
