Like you, I wish I hadn't wasted my time, but given the negative reviews of this film and the (evidently planted) responses to those reviews, I'd hoped that it was an intelligent film designed to provoke some sort of thought rather than engage the viewer in a gore fest.
I felt the same way you did though. I kept waiting for it to be interesting or intelligent. I kept waiting for the cast to do something other than repeat the same sentiment over and over and over again. I kept waiting for it to add something to the whole "infected" genre. All of my waiting was in vain.
Someone associated with the film will surely come along and insult my intelligence, I have no doubt of that. They'll tell me that I simply didn't understand it. They'll tell me that it was a dramatic thriller designed for adults. Thing is, none of that is true.
If it had intelligent dialogue, I might've found it entertaining, but it didn't. If it had a plot that wasn't trite, that might've made it interesting, but it wasn't anything I hadn't seen before. If the writer(s) had bothered to develop the characters, that might've made it enjoyable, but they didn't. I would've even settled for some dark humor to make the whole viewing experience less painful, but there wasn't any of that either.
Might some fans of the infected genre find it entertaining? I simply don't see how. I really, really don't. Just my opinion. Obviously. =)
