What happened to the dog?

There is a scene where Costner's character has stolen a dog and then just leaves it with Ryan. What happened to it? Did Jack just leave it or did he shoot it?

Has it ever been discussed by the makers of the film what happened to the dog?

reply

It's been discussed
The director mentioned it in the commentary on the DVD he was actually amused that people were llke what happened to the dog. He just said i leave it up to people imagination so i say the dog just run off and is wondering around the park.

I'm not clumsy it's just the floor hates me, the table and chairs are bullies and the walls get in

Aw that's sad. A dog taken from a good home (the dog looked in good shape, well fed, and happy) only to become homeless and possibly starve to death or be run over by a car.

Aw that's sad.

Or you could think that the dog was smart enough to find it's way back home again

reply

That's probably right. He only needed the dog to look like he was walking one in the park. He most likely took it very near there.

So the old lady's gonna m-m-m-meet with an accident eh K-K-K-K-Ken?

reply

Why should it be smart enough to find it's way back home? It's not known how far away he is from his home.

reply

I would suggest you are not a dog owner? No dog owner would ever be happy that their dog is walking the streets without a companion, for fear of them being run over. As a dog owner, I know this.

It was a public park in an upscale neighborhood. In all likelihood someone returned it.

"I can't help but notice that there are skulls all over everything. Are we the baddies?"

reply

Why would that happen? We don't know how the system there is. Are dogs tagged there? Was this dog tagged? Could his owners be located? And also the dog could have been run over or hurt by someone (or even killed) before someone got to him to help him.

reply

Means something's wrong with everything else. Of course the whole conceit is as stupid as everything else in that film.

(However, if you must know, what happened to the dog is that he got his SAG card from this role, even though it was non speaking.)

The dog knew too much, he overheard Ryan's explanation to Costner about the Russians crashing the dollar so the pooch was renditioned to Guantanamo for enhanced interrogation.

The Golden Retriever was probably one of the stray dogs in Moscow. The dogs in Moscow know where to find food, friendly to other dogs and people. They know how to cross the street with crosswalks. They even know how to use the subway system to go from one side of the city to another side of the city.

This better explains the dog in the park. http://abcnews.go.com/International/Technology/stray-dogs-master-complex-moscow-subway-system/story?id=10145833
