Trying to please two crowds at the same time

Since this is an older movie and we are in a slower board, I feel that my post wont cause any rage and/or flame. But, even with that in mind, I must be clear that I have no intention of offending anyone who enjoy this movie.

Now, to my point:
I've come to the conclusion that the movies I enjoy the least always give me a feeling that they were trying to do two things at the same time, aiming at two different crowds. Being more specific, I call these "couple movies". They are movies for you to take your girlfriend/boyfriend to the Theater, they are 50% action and adventure and 50% romance, and usually we get a diluted final product that fails to please both audiences.

And I feel that movies based on literature usually have more chance of this happening, with romance always feeling out of place.

Now, I love multi-genre movies, don't get me wrong. Horror and Action is always fun, Comedy and Action too, Kids movies with adult tones is always entertaining...

Anyway...
Am I the only one?
I was bored out of my mind because of the romance scenes, for me they killed the momentum of almost all scenes.

Disagree, Romance spy movies are great when done correctly. Truelies, Mr.&Miss Smith are absolute examples.

I think the fault for Jack Ryan was the script. I just watched the movie, and listened to the director's commentary. They were originally planned to make the movie from the stand point of female lover. The story was expanding through Jack Rayne flash backs. When Jack Reveals that he'sin the CIA to his lover, the viewer actually gets the true picture. But they changed that format, settled for straight narration. The only flash back set in the Movie was the Car Ring scene.
