What is it with Americans and adopting kids from 3rd world countries?

aren't there orphans in the USA that they can adopt?

Why would I save a world I no longer have any stake in?

reply

Yeah, but it is IN, you know...

From what I understand it can take years to get an adoption from the same country what with parenting checks etc. I know they said it took two years in this movie too but in many third world countries there are plenty of orphanages that would speed the process up for cash. Just sayin'.

I guess that's because there is a bigger chance for children being abused in those countries than in america.

my eyes! my eyes!
keep your american assumptions to yourself please

I think you're just labeling Americans with what Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie have done (in terms of adopting children). For all we know, more Americans are adopting American children than outside of the country. It's just that you attract more attention when you adopt a kid which is not of your race.

Excuse me? This is not an american assumption,(I'm not even american). It is a fact. I'm talking about seriouss abuse, like child slavery and prostitution.

reply

It is way harder, takes longer and costs a lot more to adopt in the US.

reply

Yeah! How dare Americans adopt orphans from other countries. Those kids don't deserve our love, kindness and charity. They should just stay where they are! I'm with you sista - make amerika great again!

There are already a lot of orphans in the US, why not start with these? Why go half the way across the world when there are already those needing help right around the corner?

Why would I save a world I no longer have any stake in?
