The story is good.... why 4.4?
Mostly because it's a horrible movie that uses all the 'stupid teen horror' tropes. My middle school aged nephew who was raised on Scooby Doo could have written a better (and probably scarier) script. The actors couldn't, what's the word?, oh, yeah - act. The story was all over the place (granted, most likely due to the re-shoots). Large parts of the story made no sense whatsoever - such as the family leaving right after the funeral, but leaving a high school student in charge of the house where her best friend had just committed suicide.
sharePretty much. It's so disjointed and terribly written it was just a bad movie. One scene they say their friend refuses to leave her room even for school and friends, then we cut to the very next scene where she's back at the haunted house ready to talk to ghosts again. Literally back to back scenes where nothing makes sense. The editing was just terrible, but so was everything else.
It wasn't scary, it wasn't tense, it wasn't funny, it wasn't interesting, it really did nothing well. The kid saw it when she was 10 and liked it, now she's 12 and we tried to watch it again and all she did was make fun of it and point out that nothing makes sense.
Even kids can see how stupid it is. When even your teeny bopper target demo doesn't like it, you know you have a stinker.
