I really hate that the horror genre has become a "no happy ending" one. It was cool when it first started becoming popular, but why (save for a few films) is it the norm?

For ME, a better, surprising ending would be if things worked out, fade to black. THAT I'd never see coming.

Agreed. A recent horror movie I saw in the theaters actually does just end once the evil is gone. I would tell you what movie but don't want to ruin anything in case u have not seen it.
