Rips off The Ring

People die from playing with the cursed Ouija board just like people die from watching a cursed videotape. There's also more stuff it rips off from other horror movies as well, such as cheap jumpscares from better horror movies like Annebelle and the films that it was spun off, like The Conjuring. The funereal scene is ripping off The Sixth Sense. This was not even that scary, The Ring was scarier.

There are reasons these things are called 'tropes'.

Actually this movie is based on urban legends and superstitions that have existed around Ouija boards for over a hundred years, so long before The Ring, but whatever.

Every movie rips off movies from before. Even the first movies ever made ripped off plays and novels. Plays ripped off texts and folklore passed down by word of mouth.

There is nothing "truly original". Fact.

BTW Annabelle was a spin off produced by the legendary director of The Conjuring, Saw,Insidious & Lights Out, James Wan. Your wording was confusing as if you were implying that the Conjuring was a spin off of that mediocre film.

First of all, that broad statement is not true. While few and far between, there are a few truly original movies that have been made as early as the last five years. There are only a small handful of directors/writers who still have any imagination left, but they are out there.

Secondly, using and existing story as inspiration and putting your own spin on it is different than completely ripping it off, and only changing minor semantics. This film completely ripped off The Ring. Substitute the board for the vhs, the friends for the love interests and kid, and the channelling spirits for the horses, and you've got The Ring. The actual storyline and "twist" were identical. So much so, to anyone who has seen The Ring, figured out the movie within the first 10-15 min.
