Did they feel that Kevin Kline looked too young? Hence his beard?

Being the youngest of the cast, and also having the most boyish face, I felt that the beard was like a disguise.

Googling his face for the year, I don't think the beard was needed, as he looks more or less the age of the others. Thoughts?
