Why didn't Joseph hug Helen during her breakdown? I mean, i kind of get it because he was shocked and that isn't the sort of person he is, but he was kind to her and hugged her before. I refuse to believe anyone would be able to watch that performance and not want to hold her. She was begging him to hold her for crying out loud. Myabe its just me reacting to an incredible performance but i kind of hated him more at this point in the film than any other.

I also didn't get that she was the one that killed him; unfortunately i was watching on my iPod but i didn't see much clue to it being her that did it until Joseph revealed his dicovery with her. I thought it was a suicide. Should have had him with his trousers still down from the rape, maybe?

i have no answer for why she went to prison or what actually happened, but i think he could see the person he had become and maybe felt as though he influenced her to fight back. i wanted him to walk over to her, but he made up for it writing and visiting. i thought maybe he killed himself, then thought that even if she had done it - why did she go to prison? maybe i just don't know self-defense law, but the next person that physically threatens me is going to die.
