Why is it an 18? *SPOILERS*

I'm surprised it wasn't a 15. The rape isn't graphic, and the only violent bit with blood was when Joseph was sat with the dogs head.

BBFC do not like sexual violence on any level, and the humiliation aspect involved also goes part way to the certificate. Also, a single aggressive use of the word 'C•NT' can send the certificate up to an 18. Seeing as this film is littered with them, it's no real surprise it received an adult rating.

I'm 16 and have seen much more violent movies than this that are rated 15. It is probably what you say about the BBFC not liking sexual violence on any level. I just find it strange that extreme violence can be rated 15 (AVPR, for example), but any form of sexual violence can't be.

Have a look on the BBFC website for Tyrannosaur under the extended classification details and they give their reasons for putting an 18 on this. Seems to be mostly the language and its use. . .

Films like AVPR receive lower certificates usually because of the 'brief nature' of the violence, as the BBFC likes to put it, or the fantastical setting in which the violence takes place.

Quite how Raiders of The Lost Ark ever got, and kept, its PG rating will always be a mystery to me though...

Raiders of The Lost Ark getting a PG rating is really odd.
