Is it all new footage?

Is the Meerkat Manor movie 100% new footage? Or does it have stuff from the episodes? Or is it mixed or what.

Im hoping 100% brand spanking new :)

According to commercials meercat manor is a compilation of meercat manor tv show cramped into a movie. Was there a reason to make this movie? Sure providing tv show would not have aired. Was there a reason to air this movie? No because we have seen each episode like 5 times now and watching this would only make you watch tv show for 6th time.

I think its kind of like a summary of the 3 seasons, for newcomers, like myself, who want to watch the new season but don't have time to watch the previous seasons before the new one starts.

reply

I don't know--I see a lot of new footage. The fade shots seem familiar, some of them, but there's only so much you can do with a pretty much empty landscape.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I just watched the making of.. and it says they re-created scenes from Flower's life. So, basically they assigned the role of Flower to a meerkat and taped that meerkat doing everything in flower's life. that's what the making of said. not sure i understand it tho.

According to the "Making of . . ." it was all new footage--and they got to use some technology that they had not used previously on the television show. And yes, it's a recreation of Flower's past narrated by the "charismatic" Whoopi Goldberg. (Watch it; you'll see what I mean.)

I thought Whoopi's narration was cheesy. Like it was a kids movie. I like Sean Austin much much better. He didn't make silly comments or anything like that.

Of course it was scripted but why would they change the way the narrator narrates it? They should have stuck to the original way of doing meerkat manor.

The MeerKat Manor movie is all new production footage. All of the footage of Flower, Holly, Argon, Zaphod, Youssarian, etc. is actually played by wild meerkats. From what I read as many as 8 different meerkats play the part of Flower. This movie was originally planned to be a movie theater release, but then Flower died in Feb 2007. It was originally planned to be called: "Queen of the Kalahari".

Eventhough it really wasn't Flower in the movie I think the meerkat who played her when 'she' confronts that snake nose-to-nose is incredible. What a brave little critter!!! I cant' believe they got that on film!

During the "Making of" they mention a couple of times, 'making this for the "Big Screen", aka movie theaters!

I am not happy they didn't let Sean Astin come back(he wanted to, I saw in an interview). I hope they do not change the theme song!

I still really miss Flower, and Mozart!

Hope this helps!

sooooo... the real flower was replaced in certain scenes? lame.

How is it different from watching a biographical movie based on the life of a person who has died? "What? They didn't use footage of the real Abraham Lincoln? Lame."

Seriously, insert the name of your favorite historical figure in the place of Lincoln, if you want, but let's be realistic, please.

lincoln didnt have a film crew following him around... flower did... i expect real footage.

in the 30 mins of "how was it made" they went into details of well.. how they made it.

#1 This was not shot and or narrated by original guy who spent weeks/months/years all by himself in the field. I think he had only 1 person who delivered him supplies etc.
#2 a whole production crew with hollywood-like shenanigans came there equipped to the teeth.
#3 None of meercats are original and or related meercats to old show.
#4 They have taken entire story line from Meercats tv show and filmed a brand new thing just assigning names to meercats who were living in a preserve i think and were used to humans being around.

Overall show is very pretty and hdtv brings out the best of it but originality is no longer there so if you watched tv show you may have felt "iffy" feeling while watching this because you have not recognized any commandoes, whispers, zappa etc.

I was wondering that same thing & even after I watched "the making of" special. My impression is that they've combined old & new footage. It would have a pretty remarkable coincidence to find another situation where one of a litter dies from a snake bite as did Flower's sister.

Either way, I found the movie disappointing. I thought the narration was very cheesy as was the theme music. I prefer the TV show with Astin's narration. I saw from the glimpses of the next season that there is a new narrator, though I'm glad it's not Whoopi. I enjoy Whoopi for many things but not her narration of this movie.

The "Making Of" explains that this is all new footage.

They found out about Flower's life and it was so interesting they wanted to show people how magnificent her life was. Unfortunately, since she is dead and they've only been filming Meerkat Manor for the past 4-5 years, they only have certain footage of Flower's life. This is a story that pre-dates the show Meerkat Manor. They do not have footage of Flower as a baby. They just have a written biography of her life as recorded by the Kalahari Meerkat Project.

Honestly, this was the same as Joaquin Phoenix portraying Johnny Cash. It's still such a dynamic story that it is okay Joaquin isn't really Johnny. By the same token, they used meerkats to act out the footage. The reason this movie took so long to make is because they had to wait for meerkats to perform, on their own, the same things that happened in Flower's life. Luckily, they found multiple meerkats living out various parts of Flower's life and they were able to record her true life story.

Watch this for what it is, an enchanting tale of Flower's life and not just to see a meerkat you think is Flower. This was done to celebrate one of the most amazing meerkat's lives and one of the best meerkat stories. This was done in honor of Flower.
