I don't know, the movie hasn't released yet.
But doesn't the plotline (minus the cricket stuff) remind of Disney's Mulan
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120762/
Check out the synopsis.
But since this has cricket in it and is directed by an ex-cricketer or something, it could be handled differently.
What do you think?

well to me the story seems very similar to She's The Man..with just the soccer replaced by cricket..

Spoilers!Spoilers!Spoilers!

reply

yep i think it is a remake of 'she's the man'
which was a modern day 'twelth night'
should be interesting to see what the director says about this film and how he came up with the concept...

reply

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Looks like Shahid will be playing Chaning's role and Rani will be turning into a guy to get a shot at the cricket team.

I hope they'll try something new but I don't think so ...

Remake? Do they have copyrights for that film? Do they give any credits? Give me a break. Go and google about the diffrent between a rip off and a remake. Bollywood don't know anything about remakes. They are experts though on rip offs and copy films without any copyrights or credits! But it's sad that Shahid Kapur and Rani Mukerji are in this film, they two are my favorites in the hindi "film industry"

I agree it's a shame that bollywood has resorted to as you said it ripping off storylines and in pritam's case even songs and music.

I don't understand why no-one makes a stand against this type of thing, granted some hollywood films are capable of having good bollywood remakes, i mean hollywood remake Japanese/Chinese horror films but at least they give credit where credit is due.

That's why i think it's interesting to see what the Yash Raj camp will say about the story concept and idea

Even if it is similar to She's The Man, the interesting thing is to see a female in India play the role of a male. Whether it is a comedy or not, isn't that a first, beside I just love Rani. She really pushes herself. She is sooo talented. Her dramas are exceptional. Like Paheli, Veer Zara, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Black, etc.

It does sound like the classic Shakespearean device of gender bending to allow the female the chance to run free in a male society. And Rani will be the female and Shahid will be the male who likes her for the free spirit she will be. What's not to love?

If it is a remake of She's The Man, let's hope and pray it will be a better film than the half baked show it's copying

People are critisising even wihtout having seen this movie and are calling it a rip off...so what if there are not credits or even a mention to which hollywood movie the ideas may have come from, Hindi movies are for Hindi speakers and nobody in India would have even heard of let alone seen "shes the man" so its a completely new concept to them, only Indians in UK and US or any other english speaking country would be able to join the dots. In a nutshell Hindi movies are not made for indian diasphora of which there is only a handfull they are made for the Indians that actualy reside in India.

There are dozens of shoujo managa (girls comics in Japan which I am pretty sure pre-date the Disney Mulan movie) with this same plot. It's a classic formula storyline, so the only thing we should judge is how well they built on the premise. Anyway, Rani seems to be giving up on her acting career at any rate after this movie bombed.

reply

Since we've seen it, why can't we say that it's a modern Indian adaptation of Shakespeare??? Why does it HAVE to be called a 'rip-off' of She's The Man?
I personally don't think that any PARTICULAR scene or sequence from the movie was a frame for frame copy of She's The Man...so I beg to differ.

reply

Some bollywood freaks will never admit SHlT :)

reply

I didn't know there was a way of admitting it...I always thought there was a way of 'doing' it. But since you're so good at it, why don't you explain the procedure to me...?

reply

Yeah I don't understand why this is being called a rip off of She's the Man. What about all the other million movies with this storyline, why does She's the Man get sole rights to this concept?

What about Mulan? Was She's the Man called a rip off of Mulan?
What about
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115580/ ?

And another poster mentioned this and I agree: Why isn't this called a "rip off" of Twelfth Knight?

reply

The Associate? Hardly. That movie is too intellectual to be compared to DBH. No matter how entertaining the latter was.
