Louis Koo's wife?! Don't understand

Ok I got really confused with the scene where Louis Koo goes back to his house for the first time and after putting the money away he goes to sleep on his bed and his wife/gf is there. There is a cut scene after that and we never see her again. Was this in fact a scene that was in Louis' mind because I think it's just from his memory/imagination because she's actually dead. The old man on his team says later that his wife died in a horrible accident and we also have the scenes where Louis visits a grave and looks at a broken watch. Can anyone confirm this? That scene just messed things up and made things seem unclear.

Yes. Alot of Asian narratives are very subtle with their flashbacks and it is easy to get confused if one is used to the telegraphed 'wavy lines' of Western style presentation. I have always been interested in investigating if it is Chinese culture itself, for example, that makes most stories with fractures in the narrative present them with almost no clear cues whatsoever.

In this film, the cues are very subtle: that a woman died at the start, Koo's apartment had not been entered when he arrived home, he put on a romantic CD and finds his lover in bed (though that in itself is strange. Has she been trapped inside all day?), they make love wordlessly and then the CD starts skipping, waking him up alone in bed. The next shot is him sitting alone in the living room.

It's very artfully done.
