Asian Cinema is maturing and it is WONDERFUL

I just wanted to express my appreciation for this type of film coming out of asia. Its not often that i expect a well written, directed and scored Hong Kong "blockbuster" like this, and i agree with people who say Infernal Affairs was the last great one.

Highly recommended, i gave it a 10/10 and i hope you watch it and enjoy it as much as i did.

I would have watched it around the same time as you posted and I completely agree. It was heavily atmospheric and I remember absolutely loving it enough to go hunting for a region free blu-ray (or even region B) but to no avail so far.

You're right about the maturation of asian cinema in regards to their adoption of american cinemas distinct genres and filmic conventions and subsequent development where they are localised in story and style. Although this isn't new of course, since the mid 90's Johnnie To, Park Chan-wook and Kim Ji-woon are examples of filmmakers who have for the majority of their careers made western-influenced asian cinema which surpasses their western counterparts in many ways and, with the latter two, include very complex philosophical themes. In many ways this is because of increased innovation and the adept incorporation of their respective cultures, among other things.

Some more recent examples of films which are more related to 'Accident' are Felix Chong and Alan Mak's 'Overheard' and Dante Lam's 'The Stool Pigeon,' both of which demonstrate the increasing general quality of asian cinema.
