Best Comedy Of All Time

Apatow is a genius, and Funny People is his masterpiece.

reply

I agree, great insight! Very inspiring!

reply

Both of you have a crap sense of humour. And even if it wasn't classed as a comedy(as it should be), it would still be a very bad movie.

The bit at the begining of the movie is the worst part of the movie, that showed them as they are in real life: Childish and not that funny at all.

reply

Yeah, I mean Animal House, Caddy Shack.....pssssssssssssshhhhhhh. This is the best! (Sarcasm)

Dummies get angry and swear at people.

"Pussies are against anger and swearing. By the way, get fu**ed is simply a dismissal of what you were saying, it is not an angry response. GET RAP*D! Now that is an angry response, you half-cock."

That just proves my point and, shows the mentality of the people who actually like this movie : Grown-ups who act like Children.

You do actually sound like Adam Sandler when he does his usual 'i'm mad, it's time to go mental' thing.

I wasted £14 going to see this move, during which 3 or 4 people walked out, so i can give my opinion without being abusive(unlike yourself).

Take those blinkers off and go watch some real comedy films, and not the same old rubbish that these guys spout out every movie they make.

reply

Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean it's not a "real" comedy. Everyone has different opinions. And don't put the fans of the movie in one group, I liked this movie, but I don't swear at people who didn't like it, and I'm not a "grown-up that acts like a child." I hate when people act as if their opinion is fact. It annoys me. I also hate when people complain about a movie. So you didn't like it and you wasted money on it? So what? You chose to watch it. You took the risk of not liking it. When I don't like a movie, I forget about it. I don't complain about wasting money on it, because I know full well that I chose to watch it and took the risk of not liking it.

Fair enough, however, if I go to a movie called "Funny people" under the misapprehension that it is a comedy, and instead find myself groaning with embarrassment during the whole thing, then I feel like I've been hoodwinked at best, or lied to at worst.

There is an element of false advertising and dishonesty about this film.

I feel like I've been cheated.

"What's truth got to do with it?"
"What's truth got to do with anything?"

reply

"Funny" can also mean weird/odd/tricky - not just haha funny. The title obviously has a double meaning. But a film with Sandler, about comedians - I can see where you might expect straight comedy.

reply

That is exactly what I'm saying. The title is misleading. You see a movie titled "Funny People," and yet there are no funny people in the movie. The title did not deliver what it implied, and it's fraud.

reply

I bet anybody who doesn't like this movie laughed their you know what off at Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector.

reply

Huh? Was that written by the Apatow clan too? When does it come out?

reply

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the best comedy of all time but it's a pretty good movie that happens to be about funny people which makes it pretty funny too... The "best comedy" might be something more along the lines of The Holy Grail...

reply

I definitely agree.
I just watched this movie today and it was really good.

reply

Was that film a comedy?

I thought it was a documentary on how to make a crap film and pretend it's important, with out the need for a plot or script.

"What's truth got to do with it?"
"What's truth got to do with anything?"

reply

It was not particulalry great, it was overlong, boring, and the comedy was intentionally not comedic, believe it or not. Get over yourself. Watch the DVD commentary or the 'making of' footage, Apatow makes it clear much of the humour is meant to fall flat because the comics do indeed suck, just the way they were written to. You find that funniest of all time? I find it ironic and mediocre, go figure. We do not have to agree but I think you should see more comedies.

You've posted about this film an awful lot? What's the matter with you?

You didn't like it; fair enough. It was alright.

Who me? If so, I am opinionated, that's fairly much the sum of it.

Definitely one of the best films of all time. Didn't expect much coming in, but man, did this movie blow me away. AMAZING!!!!

reply

I second that. Amen, bro.

I bought the DVD last weekend to watch it again. Me & my gf both love it, and most of the other Apatow comedies also.
This and Happy Gilmore are the only Sandler comedies worth to buy.

And for people who do not appreciate Funny people: Grown-ups is playing in theatres right now. I heard it sucks, so you might like it.

reply

While I can't call this the best comedy of all time, I'll certainly second this. This film simply floored me. I can definitely see how people feel the film was misrepresented, however. This is a drama about comedians, not a comedy. To think I almost passed this movie up because I thought it would be "another Adaman Sandler movie"... just wow.

reply

It's a really good movie, I just watched it again and I still laughed at it. Thats pretty rare for me, 8/10.

reply

I don't really consider this a comedy but I'm glad if people liked it. It's really strange how cruel the people on this board are. The vast majority seem to downright loathe the film. It's a shame it only has a 6.9, we studied this film last semester after our professor raved about it and I found it to be a very interesting movie. I don't understand all the hatred towards it. Was it that it was mis-advertised or it's constant anatomy jokes? Either way I'm not too surprised that they're aren't many Funny People fans on here because they would be over run by the rude inhabitants of this board.

reply

For those who don't know, my "anger" earlier in this post was just a joke. Looking back on this post I realize my joking anger was far too mean-spirited and not understood, which make sense. I respect anyone and everyone's opinion on this film, or on any matter. I really love "Funny People" and it is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I'm not saying you're an idiot if you don't like this movie.. I really hope Judd Apatow doesn't dumb down his next film because this movie underperformed at the box office, because, what he did with "Funny People" was brilliant and extraordinary in my opinion. It would be a shame to see him go down the path of, say, Todd Phillips and make a pretty stupid comedy that lacks originality, not that Todd Philips is anywhere near as good as Judd Apatow is. Movies like "Grown Ups," "The Hangover," "Old School," and "Road Trip" are really *beep* movies that pretty much suck and are made to appeal to the massive dumb audience that is funding them. To everyone who liked/loved this movie like myself, I'm really happy that you do and had a great experience watching it. If only there were more like you.

reply

i love this movie, i give it a 10 like its nothing, such a great film imo, if people could understand this film like it is i think it would have a higher rating. i would think on imdb this movie wouldve had at LEAST a 7. i also agree that it is Apatow's best film

the way.. of the future.. the WAY.. of the future.

reply

Were you high when you came to that conclusion? This wasn't even Judd Apatow's best comedy...

reply

i might have been actually haha. but it isnt really supposed to be a comedy, but yet a drama with comedy in it. its actually Apatow's most serious film (obviously). but i just loved it in everyway. and i said it was his best FILM, not comedy, even though the comedy in it was hilarious. but i would have to say that his other 2 films which actually are comedy's are amazing as well

last film viewed The Social Network 10/10
