Missed opportunity

Once the film took the turn straight into knockoff territory (die hard, die hard II and III, Home Alone, Creep Show etc) with over the top violence and comedic back up, i was rather bored with the premise quickly.

I liked the Santa back story as a Norseman, and that he was a hammer yielding badass who was violent -- which added interest..

But to truly cap it off as "original" would have been to turn Leguizamo into the new Santa, casting the final flashback of current Santa taking out the previous one in a violent manner.

This would have made it perfect, rewriting the ever so loving Santa as truly evil men "before" becoming immortalized as the happy present giver to children worldwide!!
