Nope.

Here's a chance to inject some diversity into a "new" version of a movie and they didn't do it.

What diversity were you looking for?

reply

I'm guessing they're trying to be 'ironic' and they're referring to white people. *sigh*

reply

There are white people in the novel as well as the version Spielberg made in 1986.

reply

I know, although their parts are brief (which is perfectly fair enough, since the Black community Celie, and Alice Walker's family, lived in, was practically segregated). I'm just trying to understand what the OP means.

Also, Spielberg's adaptation was released in 1985.

SandyR is crying out for attention.

With the lack of diversity though they won’t be eligible for the academy awards.
They’ll probably make an exception though and this movie will sweep the oscars next year.

reply

The academy's new diversity rules aren't just limited to the cast. The production people, set design, distribution, marketing and a bunch of other shit all play factors and a movie only has to meet 2 out of 4 basis.

Based on the way it's written, it would be damn near impossible to find a movie that doesn't qualify for an academy award.

reply

The original movie is excellent, but Spielberg sanitised, omitted even, the lesbian relationship between Celie and Shug.

You failed the Turing-Test.
