You must to see this. WARNING: It is awfully graphic.

I saw this last night on PBS and, since I was recording, I noticed that it ran about 82 minutes, not the 93 minutes listed here nor on the PBS website which is selling the DVD: http://www.shoppbs.org/product/index.jsp?productId=3735503

I can only assume that PBS cut 10 minutes of the "awfully graphic" content, because I didn't find it that tough to watch. I'm just guessing they might have cut the part when the tumor is actually removed, if such footage exists in the uncut film.

Apart from that, I agree that it's an excellent film. I'm fluent in Ukrainian and it was pleasure to watch a "Ukrainian language" film where most of the subtitled dialog is actually in Ukrainian, not Russian. There's another very good film translated as "A Friend of the Deceased," http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119952/ which was also once listed on IMDB as having Ukrainian dialog (but everyone speaks Russian), and I asked IMDB to correct that several several years ago, which they did.

Fluent in Ukranian? Wow, I am impressed. Good for you.

I didn't watch all of the film straight up, but if it was shortened and edited for content, then ... the gore of the surgeon using a hand drill to go into the patient's head, as well as the excision of the tumor, likely was the reason.

Was their a parental-warning or some such at the beginning of the film? I came in late, and left early, having already seen the whole thing in a cinema.

I just watched it on Netflix streaming video and yes it was graphic during the operation. It's a great documentary, though, and you can avoid watching the operation if you are squeamish. It's only a small portion of the film.

It IS a good film, no doubt. And, the doctor who did what he did, was so selfless and daring, I think.
