I was completely swept up by this cute little film. I was definitely not expecting it to be so funny.

Going in I was expecting something close to the excellent The Host (a South Korean sci-fi horror film with dashes of comedy), instead I got a full on comedy with splashes of action and horror. In fact classifying this film as Horror is pretty inaccurate, imo. There are only a few sequences near the beginning that are disturbing or unsettling. The rest of the film is a somewhat tense but totally wacky rollercoaster ride. Very over the top but self aware... not in a smug, all-knowing way... but in a playful, cheeky way.

Don't go in expecting serious horror and you should come away satisfied. I'm looking forward to what the director does next. Hopefully something just as charming and fun as Chaw is.

Completely agree! I loved this movie; one of the early scenes with the police captain tumbling down the hill & ending up wrapped in the crime scene tape had me guffawing. I giggled non-stop during the thrashing-fish-in-the-pan scene. And when something eats the bait & then Mother suddenly appears...! I could go on and on.

The movie was just suspenseful enough to be called a thriller, with some horror elements, but the wonderful humor is what sets this film apart from the rest of it's kind.
