Stereotypical gender roles...really?? In the 21st century?

The one thing that really annoyed me about this film was that the women held subordinate roles, whereas the men held the positions of power. Women were secretaries, babysitters, receptionists....the only male who held a subordinate role was a very effeminate gay man!
The one woman who did hold a position of authority was the detective, and she was useless.

I doubt this would be the reality of a dynamic workplace in the 21st century.

Its the mentality some people are still in, guess it also depends where you grew up. It fades more and more every generation all we can do is wait, unless youre a director who wants to make women equals in movies, then go for it

...That was the one thing? Not the way it was openly showing the way men are viewed by society and how they are automatically the bad guy in these situations? The way the woman was able to screw over the life of the guy simply because she was a woman? The way his wife was able to hold his life at ransom simply because she was a woman?

Good to know.

What in earth are you talking about? HOW exactly did she screw over his life just because she was a woman? Don't you know that most stalkers are men with FEMALE victims? That women are killed on average in the UK (don't know about US but doubt it is much different) by current or ex partners at a rate of almost three per week . That men commit 91% of violent crime.....that a woman who kills her husband is given a custodial sentence of approximately 20 years, yet a man who kills his wife is given 3-6 years?

Women are the most oppressed group in history...no doubt the likes of you want to keep it that way. Fool. You shouldn't be allowed to watch movies...stick to CBeebies.

Ha! *beep* It's well known that men receive much harsher sentences than women for the same crimes!

I'm surprised that you left out the part where the wife wants to pursue her degree and have something else to be fulfilling in her life, and the husband for some reason just wants her to stay at home and be only a mom.

reply

Happy that is a good point!!! Thanks for that! You are right of course....he is supposed to love and cherish her yet he doesn't support her in her further studies and also makes a cheap joke at her expense on the retreat or whatever it was.

Mmmnnnnnn....he was a LOSER!

Women being portrayed realistically is stereotyping? most women DO take jobs like this, choose to be mothers, etc. And what is wrong with any of that anyway?

I bet you say that to all the Nordic ice goddesses. -Tora Olafsdotter

Obviously you don't work in corporate finance or know people who do. I happen to work in entertainment (used to work in legal before making the switch to entertainment) and have quite a few friends who got their MBAs and work in finance, consulting, and private equity. A majority of these friends happen to be male (I'm female) and based on my interactions and conversations with them, their colleagues and classmates, finance is still a pretty male-dominated industry. And the scene in the movie where they're at the hotel drinking, enjoying "male bonding time," and discussing lap dances...yep, pretty spot on. For better or worse, finance people really do 'work hard, play hard" as the saying goes.

I'm not saying there are absolutely no females in positions of authority or seniority in corporate finance (obviously there are plenty), but the reality of the situation is that it's still a pretty male-dominated industry.

Cheedo....men CHOOSE to become fathers, but funnily enough they don't take up the available parental leave, do they????

No, they CHOOSE to leave childcare (and work, housework, cookery, childcare and so on) to their poor wives, who have NO choice!!!!

Name me ONE male parent you know to take paternity leave....
