The Rape scene is inexcusable

I'm sorry, there is no debate, what they depicted in the film was a lady passed out with vomit hanging out of her mouth being humped by a man.

It doesn't matter at all about the context, if that was your WIFE and she was lying on the bed motionless with vomit coming out her mouth, and you had sex with her, its rape. Even if she decided the next morning that it was the best 2 minutes of her life, it's still rape.

I'm sorry, but that scene was inexcusable to use as a joke. It is incredibly offensive to anyone who has ever been sexually assaulted and is sending a terrible message to everyone who watches it. As the audience we should NOT let this pass.

Hey, that girl that just passed out and threw up on her pillow, yeah go ahead and hump her, even though she's not moving. Here comes the biggest wave of high school date rapes you'll ever see thanks to this movie.

The moment in the theater was definitely awkward. Something like that has no place in a film, its a serious issue and not funny.

Do some research on what 'constitutes rape' before you reply to this please.

THERE WAS NO RAPE SCENE IN OBSERVE AND REPORT. Anyone who thinks there was a rape scene was either not paying attention to Ana Faris's character - who specifically said, "Why'd you stop, *beep* - or they're trouble-making, tea-bagging Republicans, or they're women who wouldn't know good sex if it was on top of them all night long.

She was meant to be depicted as a lousy lay; it had nothing to do with him forcing himself on her. Get off your goddam high horses. It wasn't a good movie to begin with, but don't read *beep* into it.

a man sexually assaulted a woman

she was was so drunk she couldn't walk

he lied to the police

he said he ''found'' her on the street

but on CCTV he was caught dragging her around a corner

the community took his side and mocked her

calling her a tramp, an immigrant and a single mother

but here is the best part :(

50 people including a priest shook hands with him
in court
right in front of her

Good sex as in what, rape? Yeah, silly women not realizing how great rape is.

Did you ever think that she consented to sex, and while having sex she vomited, but never passed out because she responded to him latter.

RAPE:
noun 1. the unlawful compelling of a woman through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse.
2. any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person.

reply

I have to agree with cgrube, Hill's humor is and always has been extremely dark, poking fun at sensitive and usually taboo things. But you need to see the movie knowing that and knowing you are going to see something along those lines, and then just sit back, let it happen, and enjoy. I personally thought the movie was awesome and extremely hilarious.

reply

It has been ruled that one cannot consent when they are drunk.

Congratulations, you're stupid in three languages.

reply

[deleted]

No doubt.

reply

HAHAHA! thats hilarious!
yeah that logic makes no sense, that would make many of us rape victims... lol thats a really fun remark!

reply

I think people that have been RAPED would disagree that some drunk slut getting pounded by a date while asking "why'd you stop?" is rape. There's the definition of rape, and then there are the unfortunate victims that have lived it and they will tell you that there is clearly a difference.

Getting forced into a parking garage and beaten until you can no longer fight back, or a 17-year-old having sex with a 19-year-old she's known since 2nd grade?

Your step-father raping you every day from age 3, or getting drunk for eight hours and screwing your boyfriend, but not remembering it the next day?

True rape victims laugh at posts like TC's.

reply

Do you have any idea of insensitive and idiotic you sound? Your use of the word 'slut' is in and of itself offensive considering it is an incredibly sexist term that is basically used to put down women as less than human and therefore deserving of being raped. That very mindset is where a lot of rape culture comes from. You don't speak for rape victims even a little bit, so stop trying.

reply

It has also been ruled that you cannot speed, or drink before youre 21, and that smoking weed is evil. And I highly doubt anyone here can say that never do/did these thigns. My point, don't bring laws to a discussion on morality because laws are far from perfect.

reply

Last I checked rape and speeding are not the same thing. One is sexually taking advatage of another unwilling person, and the other is going 56 mph in a 55 mph zone. Are you saying that the law on rape is far from perfect?

reply

It sounded like he was saying everybody commits rape.

reply

I was just trying to tell him to actually think of a reason for his stance on the subject other than that it is simply illegal.

reply

Some of the comments on these rape threads make me really uncomfortable.

reply

you make me uncomfortable. how's that make you feel?

reply

you say that speeding is going 56 in a 55, first of all there is a general 5 mph leeway that cops give you. and what about someone cruising down the road doing 95 and mowing down a group of schoolchildren. now this rape scene seems a little less important doesnt it? Because if either of those acts were depicted in a film with seth rogan or any other equally hilarious actor, i would laugh my ass off.

reply

Doing 56 on a 55? That's like just sticking a finger in a passed out girl.

Now, if we are to use the proper rape/speeding analogy then you'd want to consider someone who was CRIMINALLY speeding.

In that sense, then you can say he raped the speed limit; he was doing 90 in a 65. I find that more offensive then only going one mph over.

But then we get into the fact that she was completely messed up on alcohol, so we have to factor that into the speeding as well. So now the speeder is drunk and has a possible speeding/DUI and maybe even a fleeing charge. If he is going to get pulled over and he's already caught going that fast, and drunk, don't you think he'd make a run for it?

Kind of like if the girl is already that drunk, and in bed, perhaps willingly, then decides to say NO... if you're already penetrating her, do you stop or continue?

I think you need to look a little deeper and see it's not so black and white.

reply

It was supposed to make you uncomfortable. The scene wasn't funny. And Rogan's character was hurt far more than she was by the incident. It wasn't rape the minute she screamed don't stops. Was it right? No. Should this movie be rated R.Yes. Are the members of the MPAA retards. Yes

reply

if you pay very close attention in the scene while he's having sex with her he's saying her name over and over again and when he open his eyes he then realizes that she's not all there. he stops in mid thrust and says her name. like he's worried about her. she then mumbles, "why'd you stop"? which leads me to believe that when they started everything was fine but she passed out and he didn't realize it untill he opened his eyes. i think he keeps going afterwards because he doesn't want to dissapoint her. and if you go back even further he does the same thing on the date.

want to see a real rape scene watch "A Clock Work Orange" or "Blindness"
thats something you can actually bitch about.

reply

I thought it was a cracker of a scene. Laughed out loud. So did my girlfriend.

And here's my offer to your counter offer. Go f--k yourself.

reply

as a cracker myself, i find your comment to be racist.

reply

Watching a comedy to pick out offensive pieces?
smart.

reply

amazing, so YOU the anonymous public are going to tell someone when they can and cannot give consent. in effect, forcing your values onto them. that sounds more like rape to me than anything in this movie.

reply

Law is not ethics nor morality. Just because something has been ruled does not necessarily have any bearing upon whether or not it is right.

Rape is a question of whether or not a woman can prove that she was raped in a court of law in the country where she claims to have been raped. If she's passed out and he uses lubricant, what's the god-damned problem? I used to wake up my ex-girlfriend that way almost every day for the better part of a year. It only got annoying for her after she temporarily injured herself while doing internet porn. She got the idiot notion of inserting this ex-junkie's reading glasses into her pussy (the ex-junkie is this half-Tatar chick who, when we last spoke, had become addicted to world of warcraft instead).

and here is my reply:

WIN!

reply

So if two people get drunk and have sex they rape each other? That's odd.

reply

Yeah...by that ruling I've been raped whilst raping.

"There ain't no devil, it's just God when he's drunk"--Tom Waits

reply

If you can't consent while you are drunk, then I am getting raped almost every second week-end....lololol

Lol, what if he was drunk too??? Who raped who?????

reply

That's totally not true. If they are passed out, then yes. But if they are drunk, rape has nothing to do with it. Now if they were drunk and entering into a contract, then they most likely can't consent.

reply

Correction, it's been ruled that should a woman regret her choice to consent the following morning, she can call it rape.

The fact is, there was no appearance of any kind of force, and in fact she expressed interest in the act.

Prof. Farnsworth: Oh. A lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm-My-Own-Grandpa!

reply

I am sorry but the comment is stating that consent can't happen when your drunk is completely illogical.

If we passed that to other things then really nobody should get cited for anything.

They didn't consent to get into the car and drive soberly. Therefore they aren't guilty because they weren't in the right state of mind to make the correct decision.

A person high on drugs kills his wife, he isn't guilty of murder because he didn't know what he was doing at the time. Not to mention he shouldn't have been on the drugs in the first place. But really that isn't the issue according to this person.

So to back to original point. Hypothetically a virgin meets some chick and they both want sex initially before meeting each other. They are nervous and get drunk to make it easier to get past the nervousness. They are both wasted and it gets to the point when they are going to do it. He asks her if she is ready and she doesn't really respond because she is drunk. He figures she didn't say no so it is okay. They have sex. Did he rape her or not?

I would say no. But of course you would say yes she was raped because she didn't consent.

reply

Orrly, who made this ruling exactly?

"Guns don't kill people; I kill people with guns."

I'm convinced most of the people posting rape complaints have not actually seen this movie. I watched this movie, I remember a scene with a drunken one-night stand between two horrible characters.

amen to that!

reply

oh of course if he made a comment about young people mimicking what they see in the movies he must believe in god. young people carrying out acts they see in films has been proven, maybe not to the point that kids are going to go out raping people. but maybe just lessen the impact the thought of that act has on their mind. they may begin to think lightly of things like rape and some people thats all they need and they do it, two thirds of rapes go unreported so how do you know whos getting raped and who isnt? And your refusal to believe in god is just ignorance. you dont need to go to church every sunday to believe in god.

reply

I couldn't agree more. The OP is confusing two issues

1. Rape is a horrible crime (everyone agrees with that one)

2. Rape was depicted in this movie (sorry, it simply is not)

Two people get very drunk (and use drugs), two people have (bad) sex. The end. Where is the intent? It is assumed by the OP.

Would you like to hear an assumption of mine? I assume the OP has not even watched this movie.

i couldnt agree more the simple fact in any criminal issue is there has to be criminal intent for there to actualy be convicition. this means the person or persons commiting the offense have to be of sound body and mind in order to have committed a crime. therefor since both parties were not of both sound body and mind it is impossible for there to have been any criminal intent which means there was actualy no rape at all. in conclusion you are a *beep* dumb S**t it is a movie and a great one at that so shut up if you dont like it dont watch it, and if you really think that there is going to be an increase in high school rapes or just rapes in general because of a 30 sec clip in a movie that didnt even reach #1 in the box office your a flat out Dumb A**.

That is absolutely, 110% false. Being intoxicated is absolutely no defense against a crime, and I SERIOUSLY hope you don't think it really is.

Fact: An intoxicated female cannot give consent to sex.
Fact: Having sex with an intoxicated female is legally defined as rape.
Myth: If they are both drunk, it's not prosecutable.
Myth: You don't have your head directly up your ass.

reply

"Fact: An intoxicated female cannot give consent to sex."

That makes most of the sex in the world rape. This is silly.
Every post-club hook-up is under the influence of alcohol.
The OP- Of course the context matters. They were both drinking and taking drugs. They were both concious whether or not she had her eye open.

"Fact: Having sex with an intoxicated female is legally defined as rape."

What country are you talking about and what do you count as intoxicated? The legal driving limit is like 1 unit or something, which if you go by, means the legal definition is retarded.

...toy-like people make me boy-like...

The creator of this thread is TROLLING. No rape occurred. The woman shares responsibility with a man she chooses to have sex with. The refusal to impart any responsibility to the female in question and lay everything on the mans shoulders is an indication of being either, A. a GIANT tool of a mangina, an emasculated weakling beaten into submission by feminazis or 2. A manbashing, woman infantilizing, misandristic, female sexist swine. nuff, said.

reply

Sometimes you have to just turn off your brain and laugh at rape.

reply

Given Jody Hill and Seth Rogen's dumb fratboyish attitudes and mentalities, given the nature of the movie as a black comedy, given what Hill and Rogen have actually said in interviews about scene in question (see said interviews on youtube if you're interested), I think the scene is initially meant to be a shocking, startling, offensive rape scene. Then Anna Faris turns her head slightly and says "Why'd you stop, mother ucker!?" which is meant to diffuse the horror and make it gut-bustingly, toe-twistingly, mind-meltingly, ship-shapingly hilarious.

So you posters who say "Where's the rape? It was just a perfectly ordinary sex scene!" are kidding yourselves. It was a rape scene that was ultimately meant to be funny. Whether or not you found it funny is up to you, and I certainly won't criticize you if you did (I laughed a little bit), but don't go thinking it WASN'T meant to be date rape.

LOL ROFLMAO IFSIMYSLSM FTCTSSTL

reply

I don't think anyone is calling it a perfectly ordinary sex scene. I'll easily call it a disturbing sex scene. My argument is with the people that are calling it rape. If there were a scene where Ronnie watches her pass out, shrugs and begins having sex... yes, that would be rape.

I know I'm drawing a fine line here, but there is still a line. I think evidence of my stance is the MPAA ratings the movie received. "MPAA: Rated R for pervasive language, graphic nudity, drug use, sexual content and violence." 'Graphic nudity' for five minutes of floppy, fat guy penis; but merely 'sexual content' for a rape scene? Seems a bit cavalier for the MPAA.

The joke lies in playing in the margins of our sensibilities, not in displaying a horrible crime as a joke. I think this rather frank interview with the cast proves my point. the writer and the cast are agreeing that it doesn't display rape.
