Geography lesson...

I realize this is a work of fiction, and also a cheesy TV movie, but 'fiction' generally follows some standard rules such as those imposed by geography.

In case this is a surprise to anyone who made it this far into the movie... Jerusalem is not on any sea. One could not travel by boat from Jerusalem to anywhere. Finally, unless the boat was on a trailer, one could not watch Jerusalem burn from it.

It's 70 kms from the Mediterranean and 2500 ft above sea level.

Noticed that myself. Too bad, since the entire saga of the Knights Templar is extremely compelling without destroying it with an amateurish film like this.

In the second half plot rehash, she does mention they sailed from Acre. There may have been an intermediate section between Jerusalem and Acre that wound up on the cutting room floor. And they did get the Ottomans in Turkey right, even though the Osman I was just one of many Ghazi rulers there at the time- Osman controlled the area the knights would have walked to. Did anyone catch the name of the Greek island where they were supposedly rescued?

I thought it may have been an editing mistake too until further into the 1st episode when she was speaking directly to someone (not sure who) and said that the writings told of the crusaders "seeing Jerusalem burn from the deck of their ship"

Lame... though another thread explained that it is actually (apparently) the authors mistake substituting Jerusalem for Acre.

Yes. Simi Island, just off the Turkish coast in the Aegean. And actually, the coordinates given during the long shot of the "fishing" boat resolve to about 4 miles off the island. And, it's about 20 miles or so from the Isle of Rhodes, so when the old monk talked about "a helicopter from Rhodes", it was reasonable. Now, I'm not so sure that you would see a "perfect storm" rogue wave that close to shore, in the middle of a number of island and with a bottom that shallow...but that isn't anywhere near the worst error this snoozer had.

Anybody ever wonder where the cell tower was when Sean was calling from the middle of the desert?

Or where all the light came from when in the buried church (given that they only saw dirt, and not any sinkholes or such...in the "lava" plain where the town was buried.

How about the way they left Siri Island in Greece and showed up in NYC in the same clothes looking "morning fresh"? Did they remember to hold onto their passports when the ship was sinking? They didn't exactly enter Greece legally - what did Greek immigration say about that?

Blech...
