Would it really be the end of the world if someone found a treasure that revealed the truth about the gospels?
I guess it's because religious Christians figure the entire world would turn to anarchy if the Chistian myths are contradicted by a newly found gospel. That's naive message the mini-series seems to carry.

That's certainly true. But I would say atheists have a better reason to think that way. It's a known fact that the main basis of christianity and most if not all of its holidays are stolen from earlier beliefs. The ENTIRE story of Jesus is more or less a carbon copy of a much older story told about a different deity. I forget the name, sorry...
