Thats not a plot hole, thats just a poor choice that the character makes.
He could have done tons of things with the tape like hide it, take it to the police, put it back where he found it, try to find a way to copy it... etc. But he just left it in the tape player which is very much in alignment with his childish characterization I thought. He, like a child, decides in that moment to take on someone like Nigel who, to any rational person, would not be the first option to pick a fight with. Charlie is literally living moment to moment this entire movie, it would have been out of his character to begin in the final chapter to actually think before he acts. He moves to another country on a whim, sleeps outside on concrete, does LSD with strangers and wonders around chasing only whats on his mind in the present. Thoughts?
I think a 5 year old would've taken the tape. xD so the story itself just fails completely on that point. he's living in the moment, not stupid (i hope).
yeah. it's like at the airport where he didn't bring up a stupid lie to get the airport police of his back. but is it a new fact that you don't make good decisions when you're on drugs/meds all the time. i would have uploaded the vid to liveleak to make sure it's online, then bring it to the police. but he didnt has a smartphone or anything like that.

It was on VHS so he probably didn't have time to have it transferred digitally (even if the right equipment to do so had been in the house, which I doubt it was).
The tape WAS brought to the police so that 'plot hole' is filled.
When? Nigel and Gabi burned the tape in front of Darko while on the docks, right?

The minute I saw there was a dangerous guy chasing the girl, my decision would be to forget completely the *beep* girl, go to another country or whatever. He didn't. And that's NOT a plot hole, just because I wouldn't do what he did or I would do different from what a character did.
