it was in the 3rd episode and it played during the scene where the cop calls up bella and tells her he's in the neighbor hood and then seconds later her dad shows up. The lyrics are exactly like this..

I've googled, yahoo answered and searched high and low for who this artist is.

He kinda sounds like Amos Lee and a bit of Jack Johnson too. AH! i just want to know!

btw, do NOT tell me its by Funkadelics or Newton Faulkner, I've checked both those songs and its not it. When a person asked it on yahoo answered everyone kept giving those 2 answers because those were the 2 singers that popped up when you Google the lyrics.
